I've yet to see anything to convince me he's even a professional footballer. Looked totally lost today. Having said that, I applauded him off for his efforts, and I will be delighted if he comes good.
I think it’s veey early to judge him. He’s got moments of excitement but also moments of a lack of quality (probably why he’s playing with us). He seems to be a fans favourite with some (possibly an enigma) but I’m hoping he can come good.
Good lord. Just shows you what 2 polar opposite opinions can be come to from watching the same match. Fair play though.
He was poor but wasn’t our worst player tonight, better than both McGeehan & Hedges. He was better than Ugbo was in the Hull game as well. Bradshaw clearly a level or two above both at the minute
Thing is with Thiam, weve paid nearly a million pound for a player thats no better than Stefan Payne. Are we able to shell out that kind of money on a player that maybe half decent after 6 months. Im sure we could have got better for half the money from division 1 or 2, that would be more effective at this stage in the season. I want the lad to succeed but he needs to offer more.
It's frustrating because Potts can hit a ball. If you watch the goals he's scored for Blackpool and Carlisle, there's a few that are absolute piledrivers from 20 yards.
I do not think they would have been signed if Hecky didn"t want them so I think its wrong to say they were Gauthiers"s choices although he may have been the connection to sign them
Think people are judging him on the ten games he's played a part in this season. Obviously he's not doing enough in training because we hardly see him.
How many minutes has he had on the pitch ? In a foreign country at a higher standard than he's been at before ? Yeah bin him off. For me he looks to bring others into the game - a struggle last night against an effective defensive unit and a much changed line up for us. Can his decision making be improved ? Of course - and he's at the right place to learn. He's direct and likes to get a shot off. The basics are there imho.
We are talking mostly 10 and 15 min spells from the bench. It's way too early to making a judgement. Maybe he isn't up to the level required yet and maybe he never will be but certainly deserves more time to find out.
Strikers main job is to score goals - Bradshaw has 9 as a lone striker last time I looked. Maybe put in a big lad who can hold the ball but couldn't hit a cow's a**e with a banjo . I know what I'd rather have from a striker - goals
I've seen some myopic views in my time but this thread is right up there. Thiam has touch, strength and class. Tuesday night's team didn't really contain the quality around him to bring out the best in Mamadou, especially with Barnes and Williams not starting. If we give him the support he needs and he gets a run of games we will be rueing the limited opportunity to see Thiam in a Reds shirt because he will be the next big money departure, and I mean big.
