You can almost guarantee that relegation will be cancelled if Derby/Wednesday are given significant points deductions this season.

He's right it's stupid we have rules that aren't enforced. May as well just do away with FFP and let the clubs just do whatever they like, they do anyway.

Seems more like we are leading it according to press articles. Paul Conway heavily quoted:
Conway told The Athletic: “People seem to think little old Barnsley will follow the rules and not make a fuss.

“If we’ve been wronged as a result of the league not following its own rules, then it stands to reason that we’d go against the league and its TV money and ask them to pay us the difference in revenue.

"We think that’s fair and we hope it will benefit other clubs who follow the rules and try to develop young talent.

“I’m an American and in American sports, we self-regulate — if someone breaks the rules, they are cheating the rest of us and we take action.

“We went through this two years ago, when we were five minutes from staying up on the last day only for Bolton to win and go above us. Everyone knew they were cheating the system and were hundreds of millions in debt.

“We decided not to do anything about it then but our attitude has changed. Relegation to League One cost us about £7 million in revenue.

"If something like that happens again, we’ll make a claim and we think we’ll have a strong case. We’re not asking for a change in the rules. We are asking for the rules to be followed.

"We operate to a balanced budget —in fact, going to the coronavirus crisis we were positive for the season,” said Conway.

"That’s just how we do it but when everyone else in the division is losing £9-10 million on average, we expect the league to apply its rules.

"It’s pretty funny hearing some of these Championship clubs arguing for a bailout when they’re budgeting to lose money every season.

"It can’t continue like this — no other major league acts like this. If you have teams not paying players or defaulting on transfer instalments, that goes right to the core of what a league is for."

Strange how this comes out at the same time the owners buy Oostende.

Agree. Fully support the club's stance on this.

Fully support the club's stance but it's telling that he's taking the "revenue compensation" angle rather than the "staying in the Championship" angle. I think I'd rather stay up than be given 6 million quid and have to go to Gillingham away.

EFL will be shitting themselves that the likes of Peterborough Utd, Portsmouth and Co in League 1 and the mighty Barnsley from the Championship were about to sue them.

I agree with the stance Conway is taking too but is he seriously going to add legal fees to another possible £7 million loss from relegation?

I'd suggest that such a serious breach (if proved) should carry relegation as the penalty.

I'd finish the season how they've been speculating with promotion and no relegation. The additional teams in each division will compensate for the games lost. Scrap the play-offs as there would be less teams making legal challenges.

I’ve just read a post on the Fowls forum that says it’s only the FFP rules that’s stopping them raiding Europe’s elite clubs for their top talent. The delusion continues,,,, I’m laughing so hard, my ribs hurt. Where’s Donald Trump, he really needs to read this!!!

I thought exactly the same thing regarding his mention of compensation, hinting at wanting a slice of “championship” revenue to be paid. No mention of the football aspect of been given a fair chance to maybe stay in the division.

The other angle that I am sure they are considering is making enough noise about potential legal action in the hope that the league may go with no relegation in any ‘end the season now’ style outcome.

He’s a businessman at the end of the day trying to get the best possible outcome financially. Let’s just hope he makes the right decisions on how best to protect the club in this turbulent time but to be honest I have my doubts.

He is right in what he says wednesday and derby should both have points deducted this season. It's like the efl are hanging on until next season to give them a good chance of avoiding the drop. Let little Luton, barnsley hull or charlton drop this season.

Away days at places like Gillingham are the silver lining of relegation for me.

I'm not the biggest fan of the board but I support them in this fight. It was ridiculous that us and Burton were relegated but Bolton weren't. Look at the situation at Charlton, Hull, SWFC, Derby and Birmingham. They are supposedly in breach of EFL Rules, yet nothing is done. Steve Gibson would support the club as he is fed up with their mismanagement. How can the EFL ratify Lg 2 proposals? Which break their own rules. Corrupt, incompetent organisation, a bit like the English government.
