Re: king 'Whoever@ was in fact a VIKING

No it wasn't a Viking. The Norman's introduced the Shires.
When the Vikings ruled it was Northumbria ,stretching from Edinburgh to Norwich

this subject is fabulous fella... in the past you and I... well we have argued and sometimes perhaps been a bit offhand each way, apologies from my side of the fence... but with history , well I find this fascinating... There is a book about Hoyland some history and a lot of photos be a guy Called 'Howe' I think. In that he has researched Elsecar and Hoyland as originally Viking settlements... even Lowe Stand (spelling) he has found to be mentioned before Oliver Cromwell allegedly used it. I am now living In South Wales due my travels in my career , as I am sure yoyu know... but down here the history is also totally fantastic ... the Celts came from Iberia.. the Romans, the Vikings too.. St Illtudd bringing Christianity to Wales, later on the French ( after 1066 ) established themselves with estates too ... Its a fantastic way to look at things.. my wife and I have been fortunate to be able to early retire before the state pension age at 60 years... we do not want to go abroad, but we are taking trips around the UK to look into its beauty and also its fantastic ancient history.

    Re: and this too

rivals is 1 thing, local pride is personal to where you live,
do you think if a man utd fan who is plymouth born n bred and always lived there will run round the streets naked if they beat burnley?
but if he was plymouth born n bred but lived in burnley he'd either be spun'kin in his pants or thinking "how the **** did i end up living in this shi'toil

I don't see it like this. I think there's a lot more Man Utd 'fans' in Barnsley than Leeds & Wednesday

Ye I've noticed that too Pete.
Seems to be in the new builds imo where they come from.
Probably outsiders as noticed a fair few different English accents in town over last few years.
I know there's always been some contrasting accents here and there but a lately it seems more diverse imo.
