Saving Private Ryan is a quality film. If it wasn’t for the stupidity of the Ryan character it would be held up as one of the best films ever.
What a strange post. Is this a critique of Hanks' performances or the quality of the films he has been in? if it's the latter, not every film he's appeared in since Joe vs The Volcano has been good/great - but that's not down to him. But a lot of them have been very good. If it's the former, then that opinion will place you in the extreme minority. I don't love Forrest Gump or many Ron Howard Films. But News of the World, The Post, A Beautiful Day in the Neigborhood, Sulley, Bridge of Spies, Philadelphia are very good films. And Hanks is very good in them. Not every great actor has a flawless resume - look at Robert De Niro's last 20 years. Or most of Samuel L Jackson's career. Hanks has had a few misfires like Bonfire of the Vanities but his track record is generally exceptional and he levitates some average films like Castaway and The Terminal.
having worked in aviation i thought sully was very good and the one with stephen graham in, greyhound
A bit like Kevin Kostner to me. He only does poignant power ballads. I've got to be in the mood. You've got Mail is Sunday afternoon hangover can't be arsed to grab the remote spiel.
The Green Mile, one of my all times favourite films. Hanks just has the ability to make me warm to his character in anything he does right from the get go. I've never thought about it before, but now that I do, he's probably my favourite living male actor.
I can't even remember which film this is about now, but if it was released after Joe Vs The Volcano then it was rubbish.
I would probably avoid watching any new films altogether. Most of the new ones are made after 1990. Especially any new ones starring T. Hanks
