Very sad. I saw his band support Bob Dylan on Temple in Flames Tour nearly 30 years ago to the day. Roger McGuinn of the Byrds was also on the bill. The Heartbreakers were Bob's backing band too. Not a bad gig.
has he died? Was just checking updates, he was on life support in LA following cardiac arrest. His people saying nowt so far... Just seen news, very sad..
News of is death Is all a bit confusing at the moment, they’re now saying reports of his death as been retracted
Gutted if true, certainly mixed reports but is def very ill if still alive, hoping he pulls through, brilliant artist.......sadly never played many uk gigs really, did Hyde Park this year but I couldn't go.....
Used to have this on an old VHS! Yes, NEC was gig I went to. Haven't seen Dylan since. Saw him at Wembley in 84, when Mick Taylor was in his band. The HB's were superb on this tour. Any band with someone called Benmont Tench should be taken seriously
Early reports of his death were premature but he has definitely gone. RIP Our Tom. There really aren’t enough Pettys in the world.
Strangely I had "I Won't Back Down" as an earworm yesterday morning and I was singing along until I realized I was out of the house.
I had my hopes up for a while this morning, because I was silly and mistakenly thought that "taken off of life support" means that Petty is recovering, but oh man, the bad news came only moments later. He's gone now. I'm not usually into American kind of rock music, but Tom Petty (& The Heartbreakers) was awesome. I was a huge fan around 10-15 years ago when I bought all the albums, and even if I must admit that my interest in his newer stuff slowly faded over the years, some of those old albums will always stay among my favourites. I think it's time to give those albums another listen... So long Tom, thanks for all the music.
