You can't have tradition without using something that you've used for a while. The alternatives are always really old songs anyway (as in even older than Cocoon); if we're going to have an ancient song we might as well have our, slightly less, ancient song.

Most clubs have traditional walk out tunes - thinking of Everton in particular with Z cars - always gets crowd on its feet

I missed the rocky music and timerider, i didnt know it was top gun theme ive not seen it, i did just sound like a screaching noise, im happy to move on from timerider but i would like our own anthem that we can all sing along to as the players come on the pitch. Not sure what i was supposed to do to that noise yesterday.

Me too, and, I would wager, a significant proportion of the rest of the fan base. Because football support is based on familiarity, sentiment and nostalgia. If it wasn't we'd all go support a team that played well and won things.

We all know Timerider is crap, but it's our crap, it means something, it means Barnsley FC.

I hate Timerider - but how are you gonna find something 'current' without alienating the majority of the audience. Just bear in mind the average age of a regular football fan is late 50's.

The reason we got stuck w timerider is that there's no consensus for something 'better'. Music is a very subjective taste, any tune you mention will not get more than 10% of people to agree it's a suitable replacement.

Should get Grimethorpe Colliery Band to rustle up an uptempo tune. No idea what they could do but it would be unique.

Been supporting the club nearly 30 years and always had timerider. My thoughts are that it’s gone stale personally but at the same time the replacements have been dire.

    Not just football.

    Every live sport.

It’s been on at the cricket, the darts. It was used every day at Silverstone for the F1 this year and last year.

    Winds me up.

I don’t agree. Leave it as it is.

Like I say, plenty of clubs have famous walk out music that is old, doesn’t mean they aren’t progressive clubs - just that they have identity.

Z cars for Everton (and Watford), Local Hero for Newcastle, Chelsea (amongst others) famously use the liquidator.

Nobody else uses cocoon. It is associated with us now more than the hitman and her - Pete Waterman mentions us on the radio relatively often re this point.

We’ve had this before. Not everyone likes it. Folk have asked for it to be changed - but nobody likes the same things and there is absolutely no agreement on what to replace it with. If you had a vote on walk out music for the team amongst fans, and had a shortlist of five, ten, however many you like - if cocoon was on it, it would win by a landslide. In fact it’d probably get as many votes as all the other suggestions combined.

Whitey lad, you’ll read this. Pass the feelings in the room back up the chain.

We might want to be mavericks on the field but the Top Gun theme we do not like!!!!

Another vote for Cocoon. Just because summat is old doesn't mean it loses relevance. Oakwell is old, shall we move?
And remember the ruckus when the BBC tried to change the Match of the Day theme?

My 16 year old daughter was as baffled as me yesterday as to why we had changed it; her tastes are different to mine but we both agreed that we missed our theme tune!

Personally, I would keep Timerider for the reasons previously stated. However, if we did want to change then get Grimethorpe to do a brass band version of Timerider.

In addition, if we want to be creative then why don't we have an end of match tune, something a little different - I'm thinking Brentford with Hey Jude. Obviously something a different to that but something we can shape to be ours just like we've done with Timerider but maybe a bit better :)

If we’re going to change it, it should be something from a local musician that sums up where we are as a club.

Opinions on this kind of thing will vary so massively and any polls you do will only really be answered by those most passionate. You’ll never land on something that’s universally agreed on and I guess the majority would shrug if you asked them if it mattered that much.

Timerider - don’t hate it when it’s played/don’t miss it when it isn’t
Sweet Caroline - get in the sea. Overplayed, overused, and irritating
Top Gun - love Top Gun so don’t mind it. Don’t mind the Rocky theme either for the same reason
Love this Town - quite like this for after the game. Words are at least relevant, isn’t used by anyone else, and as a result can be ours.

Do like the idea of updating Timerider with someone local. I guess it isn’t something that will be a factor in whether most of us attend games, so probably needs to be something the kids can relate to first. Start and stop there for me.

If I wanted to listen to Fekkin Sweet Fekkin Caroline, I’d go to Castleford Rugby League.

Cocoon may be crap, but it’s ours. It’s been played at old and new Wembley (aka Oakwell South) so if it’s good enough for there, it’s good enough for anywhere.

    The people have spoken.

    @Whitey - sort it please.

    Agree.
It should only be played at its spiritual home - Wheldon Road. Everywhere else is a plastic irritation.
