Jasleen Kaur's installation includes a classic Ford Escort covered in a giant doily, how gullible can the art world be? !
Can you not see how the doily represents history draped over a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, evoking powerful imagery of times past, whilst reminding us that such automobiles are like Grandma’s doily and indeed the lace industry in Britain, passé, and it’s time for us to move on to a cleaner brighter future. Now pay me £2m for it.
For me, its the subtle juxtaposition of the painting just behind and using the same colour scheme as the car to accentuate the passe nature of industrial progress.
It symbolises the de-toxification, of the masculine symbol of the thrusting motorcar, and asks us, do we need the feminine in order to draw a veil over the patriarchal systems which have held us all back for so long?
Surely by equating the doily as a feminine article you are perpetuating the patriarchal view and hence your whole view point is a hypocrisy!
You are right, I will immediate make myself available for the stocks in the town square and comply with any requirements to attend a microaggression re-education camp.
Have we got this all wrong? Is that an anti-makassar rather than a doilie? It's so thought provoking.
After reflection, I think it could just be a pastiche of Wayne Rooney, a fading red who doesn’t want to be seen out with another aging escort.!
