Funnily enough, my Dad got the flu the first time he had a flu jab as well. He refuses to have the jab again and hasn't had flu since. What are the chances?
The over 50s and those of any age with underlying health conditions probably should take it. But if you're healthy and under 50 it's a big risk to pump your body with a new product that the vaccination companies are saved by law from being sued about and we don't know what reaction we will see a decade down the line as long term issues from taking it, if any.
And what of those unable to have a vaccine (typically those that would also be most affected by Covid...) or the 5-10% where it is ineffective? Everyone should have the vaccine to ensure these groups I mentioned are as protected as possible.
I’ve followed the rules, simple as that. And if having the vaccine means I can live my life as I’d like to again, happy days.
I get where you are coming from but everyone should be free to make a informed choice as they see fit. Personally if it has passed all the relevant safety checks then I would probably be willing to have it, but with it being so new I would want a lot of information on those checks and to do some reading on it, especially before I let my kids have it.
But what happens if something bad happens to someone? They can't sue. We don't know yet if during the normal vaccine time frame if it's safe yet. It will hopefully not happen but we don't know for sure if in ten years time taking one of the vaccines isn't going to see a rise in cancer, heart issues, diabetes etc from certain people who took a particular one.
A friend with M.S. and on Disease Modifying Drugs been told that there is no point in having the vaccine because it wont work. The vaccine wont do him any harm but because of the nature of M.S. and its effect on the immune system having the vaccine is pointless. There may be people with other conditions who because of the treatment they're on means the vaccine wont be given to them.
Have you got a source that rules have changed regarding vaccine liability? I keep seeing it mentioned but found no source for it anywhere for the UK.
Yeah if it came to my turn and those that needed it had had it then I’d take it, but I wouldn’t want to at the expense of anyone that may need it more, either at home or abroad. I’d like to see the elderly and vulnerable have it, then let the rest of us get on with our lives whilst jabs are issued across the world. It would be more beneficial for a 28 year old in a Cape Town township to get it than for me. I just can’t ever realistically see it getting to the point where I’d be next in line to take it, unless it’s to travel to a different country where it’s required.
That’s fine, but we may have to accept that until enough of the population has the vaccine we’re likely to stay under some form of restrictions.
Tyke _67 I’m 64, got high blood pressure (controlled with drugs) and asthma. I’m ticking 3 boxes in could do without but I hope I’m nearer the front of the queue for this jag. Then I might get my life back and a bit more of normality. I have been going out but very wary and very careful. I get the flu jag and have never had a reaction but only once have I had flu, about 30 years ago and I was bed ridden for about 5 or 6 days surviving on water and cup a soups. It was dreadful.
Very interested to see what the theory on that will be. Do we need to get to the levels of 60 or 70% we were told are required for herd immunity. Or will it be a case of getting it to the those who are at risk.
Not sure mate. I imagine it will carry on going off case numbers, deaths and hospital admission as it is currently, rather than tracking immunity
I'm sure we all want our lives back mate. This year has been dreadful to say the least. I just hope and pray they're not forcing a vaccine on everyone too early as they know that we all want to get back to normal so most will inevitably take the vaccine
Not forced on anyone though is it? You have every right to refuse the offer and take your chances. My opinion is with the 3 at risk categories I suffer I’m more than happy to take the vaccine risk than risking getting covid of which my survival might be in the balance.
