I would have thought that due to the huge amount of money swilling about in the English leagues compared to the French leagues then we could get far more for the money in France, or other countries on the continent, compared to England.

I wouldn't bother chasing over priced English players (Potts?) when there is a continent brimming with talent that could be brought in at the right price.

So if I was Patrick and Hecky - the focus would be on Canny Ganaye to come up with the goods.

At a guess I would say that we could afford to get at least 3 highly skilled young French strikers / wingers in the £1M per player bracket.

Then add to that 4 or 5 British loans and we've got a good season ahead.

No chance we will be signing players at £1m each.

I think we are doing this already - in that sort of bracket anyway.
But I think when it comes to strikers / wingers we could get much more bang for the buck on the continent.

We could do with 3 or 4 young Thierry Henry's.

    With 2 or 3 Thuram's, Desailly's, Blanc's or Lizarazu's behind them?

    Sounds realistic mate.

We've paid about £400k for Pinnock. No idea where people are getting £1m from.

London papers reporting £500k for Pinnock and an estimated £750k for McGeehan.!
For what we can afford the only Henry we could afford would probably be Lenny.

He went down well at Leeds end of season do one year. Said he'd had a look in their
trophy cabinet and saw Lord Lucan sat on Shergar.!

GG hasn't been brought in as a scout.

What's the point of Canny Ganaye if he's not able to form links to continental players?

Perhaps he's just the best candidate for the job. Regardless of his nationality. You'd hope that's the case anyway.

I may be wide of the mark but I reckon the point of a CEO is to be CEO and run the club on a day to day basis. I don't think we hired him because he's french so he's heard of a lot of French players any more than we would hire Stavros flatley to buy us some Greek wonder kids

I've heard he only got the job so we could save money on an interpreter for Sessi. And the catering team's coq au vin wasn't up to scratch.

Snails and frogs legs at half time?

I could just imagine the Ponty p*ssed up and sloshing their red wine all over the place.

    Sacre bleu!

    No.
There will be guys in Britain that could do the job.
I mean - how difficult is it to count the shirts in the club shop (as per Don Rowing)?

You have been known to come out with some quite outlandish stuff on here Nudge, but the basic premise of this post - that the domestic market is ridiculously overheated and better value for money may be found in Europe - is pretty logical. Obviously there are other issues such as scouting, will a player settle here, cope with the rigours of English football and the like, but in theory it's a very fair point. It's one of the reasons why the Premier League is already flooded with foreigners. Though as an aside, I would always want the core of our side to be British. Follow Watford's model? I'd rather stay in the second tier, thanks.

That sounds absolutely brilliant. Can't wait for my half time crepe, washed down with a fine Sancere.

Because he is a chief executive not a club scout.

There is the slight issue of leaving the EU on 31/3/19. We do not know at this stage that EU citizens coming to the UK after A50 was triggered will be able to stay in the UK after that date. The chances are that they will be able to, but there is a possibility that we could spend a lot of money on a player (or players) who we have to let go for free as they can no longer play for us. In theory, if EU players are treated the same as non-EU players are now, wouldn't we have to prove they were at international level to keep them here (or has that changed now?).

I would have thought the success Huddersfield have had in the german market that it would be a good place to be scouting.
