It is wrong. I was there. Pea soup fog and Bell scored the only goal. Same game Joicey got a kick in the kidney and later suffered a stroke.
That's how I remember it too. Was there anybody from the BBS who wasn't there that night? Funny to think we could all have been stood next to one another
I was there, it was a beautiful sunny winters day when we left Bolton on Dearne but York was in a pea soup, we could only see shadows on the halfway line....
Yup. The weather was surprisingly glorious when we set off from Gilroyd. As others have said, Bell's fourth goal for us in only his third game was, thankfully, scored right in front of us. Warnock played on the wing for York that day. Later in the season, he played against us at Oakwell for Crewe.
Don't tell me - you were on the 'spesh' that day too....and you lived in the concrete canyon too just like me....
Me and my dad had a lift with his work mate at Highgate Pit, we lived on Ringway (opposite the cemetery next to Highgate lane). We only went down Cement City mob handed and heavily armed.....
OK can we narrow it down a bit more? Did anyone else travel to that match with the Supporters Club, and more specifically, were you on the coach that wouldn't start up again after the match? We had to stand about waiting for ages in cold fog for a replacement coach to turn up. Thankfully we had the memory of that goal and three points to keep us warm.
Bloody awful it was, listening to all the "ooohs" and "aahs" from the other end every time York had a chance, and not being able to see anything. Of course, we had proper fogs back in those days...
And I'm so glad I found someone else who due to age finds it difficult to remember things.... wasn't it two points for a win back in those days....
