You know as well as I do what the club strategy is. If you have read any of my stuff, you will know exactly why. I do not want to go through it all again this early in the day, but I am consistently behind the club's buy young, improve and sell on strategy and I see it as the only way that we can compete against clubs with a bigger fan base or owners who are prepared to throw huge amounts of cash at getting to the Premier League. I am patient, and I am prepared to wait until either the strategy bears fruit, or the money at other clubs runs out. If you are not prepared to do that, then you are in for a different watching experience.
Quite right Helen, as has been mentioned many times the oversight by the board did much to undermine the team but individuals (in this case anderson) too. You just cannot throw vastly inexperienced young players together and expect them to become better. Its no coincidence mads is better along side experience. The squad needs a minimum of 3 expeienced players (loan or otherwise) to bring out the best in the young players.....then you can sell them until your hearts content.
I'm purring at the thought of them being sold for massive money, providing our recruitment sets the bar a lot higher each time. It means we'll have been successful on the pitch and established as a Championship side. In essence the strategy is a solid one, especially in today's world of players moving between clubs a lot more frequently than seasons gone by.
That hasn't happened yet though. I was so disappointed at the start of the season, I really thought we could avoid the struggle and push on.If we can be like Brentford, great. I sincerely hope the board has learned lessons this time and that they actually listen to criticism.
At the start of the season most people said they'd be happy with 4th from bottom. Turns out they actually meant 4th from top given the dogs abuse the board has been getting. Patience is a virtue.
I don't like the Brentford comparison as aren't they basically just recouping the debt from the massive investment that went in at the start of the project? It's working, but they didn't start from the same place we're trying to. This is a FAR better squad than the last time two times we were relegated from the Championship. Our fate might sadly end up being the same, but recruitment has been a positive in my opinion - other than Sollbauer and one other experienced head in the Summer to bring it all together.
The elephant in the room though is how many of the Fab Four will still be here at the start of the next season?
You have a point as regards Brentford. But I'd like us to emulate them as far as possible. The thing is though, but for Covid we would have been relegated. For once we've had some luck and things have worked in our favour. But if we were/are relegated it being a better squad means nothing as they'd all be wanting to leave anyway, Better players, like Pinnock , have ambition and I'd like our club to cater to that.
I guess logic would suggest that if confidence is negatively affected with the boos and hassles then equally a players confidence should be boosted when fans get fully behind a player and support. It therefore amazes me why we have fans who single players out, irrespective of their performances or ability. It amazes me even more that people take it to a personal level and off the terrace to SM and in the street and everyday life. These people must have something wrong in their heads.
You could have given all the backing in the world to Tom Kennedy and Scot Wiseman but it wouldn't have made a **** of difference
But for Covid we would have been relegated? Not sure you can make that claim as if it was definite. The comment on the better squad was in relation to the transfer policy. I wasn't talking about what relegation would mean. We'd all like to be able to match Pinnock's ambition, but let's not make out that we've been struggling to match the ambition of star players throughout our history.
I like" the plan", its the only way we can compete at this level. However the board has been far too inflexible, in their approach and its why we stuggle at this level. Selling our best players for profit .....i accept. I do not accept not getting a couple of experienced loans in to make the individuals and team better. The idea we break the bank and spend £100 million on players or 10 bob is nieve....there are other ways to go about how we practice our plan.
great post. I remember his first interview and he enthused me with his attitude and positivity. there is a top player in there and he is developing. gerhard did the right thing in resting him. The stick he got on here (and elsewhere) was shocking, but unfortunately so typical of fans' "cant wait wont wait" attitude. in addition to his performances on the pitch it says much for the lads attitude that he has shown determination in bouncin back. Well done Mads and shame on those who were all too quick and ready to consign him to the rubbish skip.
I was talking about recently. And no, no one can say anything for definite but I just have the feeling that this break has helped us massively. Remember Woodrow was injured before the break
