According to the BBC Stats: 21 shots, with 5 on target (as opposed to Ipswich's 10 and 4) We've managed only 1 goal per game in the last 4 starts.
Armstrong could have had an hat trick but he's goal shy and not championship quality. Hammill got put through brilliantly by Williams only to lamely hit at the keeper when he should have broke the net.
It wasn't hit at the keeper, he made a reaction save. At least he hit the target. Nowt good to say about Armstrong I'm afraid.
Utterly depressed after today. Complete and total waste these last 3 games against 3 poor teams. Could've been back in contention but nope, missing chance after chance and conceding awful goals is much more preferable.
Story of 3 games in a week really. Competitive, and worth something from all of those games but 1 point from 9 because we just can't make the most of our possession. Today we pretty much controlled the game, had lots of free kicks and had them on the back foot. Feels like a defeat sadly. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Fine margins. Had the whistle blown 30 seconds sooner, everyone would be saying what a good win and controlled performance it was. One lapse in concentration doesn't make it a bad performance for me like.
If only anyone could have foreseen that selling our best centre forward and not replacing them would influence our ability to score goals.
Overall it was a pretty good performance. But unfortunately the only thing that counts in terms of points on the board is the result. With Wednesday losing (and us still to play them) we could have given ourselves a little glimmer of hope again if we'd held on today. As well as dispersing some of the doom and gloom after 1 win in 8, against a team we rarely beat. But, we wasted chance after chance (as we did on Tuesday at QPR) and were made to pay at the end. We've played 3 poor teams in a row who if we'd just maintained a little bit of concentration at both ends we'd have beaten, and been right back in contention. It just feels like a complete waste, most of all today, and left me feeling totally down after the promise shown this season.
I have to agree with this. I was gutted with conceding so late but there were more positives than negatives overall. We have to start putting chances away though.
I agree it's frustrating but I'd much rather we were creating chances and missing them than not creating them Fine margins, as Marc says, and bad luck (in the Derby and QPR) games have cost us. I'm annoyed too, but I'm going to take away a good performance and another point on the board. The season goes through fluctuations: in October and November out luck seemed out, we weren't taking enough chances. Then in December and January everything we touched turned to gold. The team isn't as good as it was, but if we play as we did today, put in the same effort and endeavour, we'll get ourselves a good points return for the rest of the season; and hopefully our luck will turn
Sadly its all about keeping an eye on who should be retained for next season now, the preparations start here as theres nothing meaningful to play for now. Good luck to Preston & Fulham though as they still look for a play off place, at least they have kept their own seasons alive.
Not a classic match, but we had enough chances to win it. Adam put a shift in & did well overall, but doesn't look like scoring. Armstrong sadly not doing enough to be in the team. James was class, Scowen a bit lost today. Overall unlucky not to get 3 points. We were easily best team in second half.
