Nice work! One thing though. I think midfielders will struggle as they won't get points for a clean sheet, but also probably won't score that much. Would having points for assists be an idea?
It definitely is I am just being lazy. Fancy looking the assist stats up for me every week and I will add them in. Pretty please.
Assists data is a bit harder to get by. So I can see why you didn't do it. This website shows the assisting player next to the goal scorers: http://www.worldfootball.net/report/league-one-2018-2019-barnsley-fc-oxford-united/ So for this game that's Cavaré, Potts, Mowatt and McGeehan.
They may have been the previous player to have touched the ball but I would hardly call 3 of those assistes. 1 Simple cross field pass, Thiam created the chance himself 2 Good lay off to set up chance 3 Mowatt tackled by defender! 4 McGheehan scuffed his shot and VA picked up the pieces
Yeah and things like assists, goals and defensive duties are taken into account anyway when picking a MOTM. It just makes more work when it can be 3 points for first, 2 points for second and one for third. Then the three with the most points at the end of the season (minus last home league game if we are to actually fund a trophy to present) are our top three players of the season.
This is the issue with "assist" stats though. Cavare played a simple pass. Not really setting up a chance. Thiam smashed it in from range. Potts, similar. Mowatt…. fell over after controlling the ball but had the last touch. McGeehan, tried to score, scuffed his shot and inadvertently found Adeboyejo unmarked. Technically assists, but none were really to make a killer pass, bit of skill to open room, or to pick out a great cross.
I can live without it if it's believed to skew the results. It was merely a suggestion based on what I've seen in fantasy football leagues.
I'm with you on this DB, but would like to see 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the top 5. Mowatt was my (and many others) MOM but gets nowt, while 9 of the team have gained points in the original post.
I think I will stick with the original given the kerfuffle over assists. Goals and clean sheets are reasonable I think given that some players like say Lindsay may constantly contribute to the team but fly under the radar. Maybe a -3 for a sending off
