Agree. It’s hardly a positive spending the most money in one window in your history when we’d lost 9 first team players across 2 windows, players were signed who the manager didn’t want & I’m sure he would’ve much rather not spent some of that money & been able to sign some more experienced free agents or renewed the contracts of players like Scowen, Roberts & Watkins so he didn’t have such a huge turnover of players

I'll correct you again the only players who were sold under hecky were winnall( who forced a move and told the club he didn't want to play again, he also had 6months remaining on his contract) hourhine ( was offered the biggest pay deal in bfc history but still said I want to go to villa also had 6 months left on his deal) bree (6 months left on his deal) other players like scowen and Watkins just ran their contracts down and went to pocket bigger wages.

As for having no choice in signings hecky went on record saying if the signings weren't his choice he wouldn't play them. He also said he had watched ugbo for a long time and believed he could make the step up. He took Adam Jackson to hibs with him and played him before pinnock so that would suggest he was a fan.
Bradshaw wasn't suited to playing alone but he kept doing it with a big hoof to him. He even tried to play Thiam as a lone striker. All the midfielders he signed suggested he wanted to play 451 which he then did at Leeds and hibs. He moaned about experience but loaned the most experienced player we had out. He's done well to get united promoted but he made some big mistakes here but to some he could do no wrong and folk would have happily sand he's one of our own while he took us down the leagues blaming the owner players and everyone else.

Winnall told the club he wanted to leave and wouldn't be playing for us again and his agent had sorted a move to Wednesday. He was unhappy with some of the stick from fans and could quadruple his wages. How would you have made him stay?
I can imagine there was 8 1st teamers who wanted out marley Watkins put a transfer request in I felt for hecky but he's managing barnsley we had 10k season ticket holders we don't pay big for championship always going to happen.

We couldn't afford more experienced players Take Gary Gardner who we had on loan he was on nearly 20k a week at brum we wouldn't pay that. Hecky loaned out mowatt with over 120 championship games to his name. And he himself said in a radio sheff interview we can't afford experienced championship players we have the lowest budget we have to give players from lower leagues a chance.

Watford are a poor example mate they change their head coach every 5 minutes and imo are a very poorly run club. Any player will struggle if your change styles and backroom staff so often. Wilder leaving at end of season.

I don’t necessarily mean proven names. For example we got 2 really good seasons out of Perkins before his legs started to go.

Having to integrate a big group of youngsters in one go was the problem. It’s happened twice to us now & hopefully won’t happen again. Nothing wrong with integrating 3 or 4 a season but it’s a shambles when you’re trying to gel together a pretty much brand new team full of youngsters in a league that tough.

No issues with us loaning Mowatt out. He had a bad year at Leeds, a bad few months with us & was poor on loan at Oxford. With how bad he was at Oxford I doubt he would’ve contributed much for us. I think it was the reality check he needed. It was a pretty popular exit at the time especially as we thought we’d got McBurnie coming at the same time! (Another shambles).

Well you either call his bluff or sell him. I doubt he would’ve refused to play if push came to shove but we backed ourselves into a corner in the sense that these players were largely sold the transfer to Barnsley with the agreement that they’d do well for us & we would then sell them on.

I wondered at the time if it was possible to offer incentives based on reaching the play offs to split the TV revenue & some of the gate to appease the likes of Hourihane & Winnall but I’ve no idea whether that would’ve worked

Your never going to win nothing with unhappy players.
Problem you had with winnall and Connor was I heard winnall was on a reported 4k a week here and his agent sorted him 19k a week on a 3 year deal.. set for life.
Connor got a reported 27k a week at villa and again a 3 year deal. He will get more now at Derby than he was on here. Our then owner who scouted these 2 players and paid the fee to bring them in was terminally ill.
People said at the time give conor same as villa that's all well and good but your a injury away from bankrupting the club.

Thing for hecky is managing sheffield United this season one of the best squads in the league 2 great talents on loan from City in macatee and Doyle parachute payments and 25k season ticket holders is chaulk and cheese to us in 2017 10k season ticket holders a squad unhappy on peanuts, owner terminally ill.

Any experienced player worth having in the championship and were going to struggle with wages. Hence why we got Gardner in on loan.
Mowatt should have been a player who we worked with and tried to get him back to his old self.

Hecky is a great coach & manager & should have been at Barnsley for longer than he was. He was treat like ****, & did a thankless task taking on more jobs than just the job he was paid to do. I don’t blame him going to Leeds. It was a great opportunity & it was always going to be until the end of that season, so it was no shock when he was sacked.

We are still recovering from that January 2017, we had our pants down, & no doubt will have our pants down in the summer.

Agree Sam.. and may I add that Hecky going into Leeds was like Potter going in at Chelsea.. never ever going to get the chance to make it work.
    Never a big enough "name"

I remember at the time he was left doing every job except for answering the ticket office phone - utterly ridiculous pressure, no wonder he left, the club was going through big turmoil, but you could see he was not impressed with the new owners, and as it turns out he was right - bunch of *rsebags. Really pleased for him, one of the few managers who've left us and actually done better afterwards, despite his problems at Leeds, stuck to it and obviously backed himself when others would have faded into obscurity.

He signed a 3 year deal with leeds he took over them in 7th and they finished 13th that season. He was sacked due to fans wanting him gone. If he had done a decent job he wouldn't have been sacked same with hibs.

We aren't recovering from 2017 we sold players for less than value as they had 6 months remaining and the bloke who bankrolled us and paid for those players was terminally ill.
We're still recovering from chein lee and Conway.

All this poor Hecky forced to go to Leeds for massive salary makes me laugh . He dropped on at Shitfield and won’t be there very much longer . Colin’s clearing his diary for Christmas
