Man Utd have over double the amount of worldwide supporters of Real Madrid. They are a far bigger club regardless of trophies won and Ronaldo left for Real because he always dreamed of playing for them like most people from Spain/Portugal do.

Man Utd are the biggest club in this country but I'd say Real are the biggest club in the world.

Trophies aren’t regardless. Just because Man U have a some plastic fans in Asia doesn’t mean they’re bigger. Madrid are bigger and, especially at this moment in time, a far better team.

He’s a blinding player, one of the best ever. He’s also a massive diving cheat but apparently that’s ok to everyone under 30. I personally find that side of the game unpalatable but to each their own I suppose.

oh yes Mr Cristiano "dribble dribble then pass back" Ronaldo. Needed a penalty and a blunder to get a hattrick. Overrated

How anyone can say he is over rated is a joke. It just shows they know sweat FA about football. He is a much more versatile player than Messi and if I was a manager who had to choose just one of them to play for me it would be Ronaldo every time for me. He has a wider range of technique than Messi and is more versatile but that isn't saying Messi is no good.

Yes at this moment they're a far better team. Just like at this moment Bournemouth are a far better team than Villa. Man Utd are a far bigger club, Barca too are probably bigger than Real now.

With the exception of Messi but it’s all about opinions mate, Ronaldo always gives the impression he’d prefer to lose 4-3 as long as he got the hat trick than win 4-3 and he doesn’t get on the score sheet, both him and Messi are unbelievable players I just think Messi is more of a team player and for me personally it comes down to who I enjoy watching the most, I wouldn’t argue with folk who prefer Ronaldo tho, it really is like splitting hairs.

Agreed. We are blessed to have them both around in our lifetime. Ronaldo will be remembered as one of the greats. Messi will be remembered as the greatest.

But surely if you play for the biggest and best club side in the world who looked after you from being a child, you don't need to move to another club.

    Its idiotic to think otherwise.

Messi is the best player ever, Ronaldo is a close second.

    Both brilliant.

Pele and Maradona are comparable. Hard to say with the developments in physical conditioning where they would fit in the modern game but if they had benefited from similar regimes you’d imagine similar outputs.

So many things about Ronaldo to dislike. It takes a special player for me to overlook that and admire not only his talent but his desire to win and ability to do it at critical times. Watched him live at the Euros a couple of years ago against Hungary. He changed my view of him as he picked up Portugal with a dominant and brilliant second half display. Real passion.
Messi is highly skilful and prolific but hasn’t got a record to quite match Ronaldo either internationally or for different clubs.
    Still don’t like him though!

Incredibly talented, but knows it. As a result he demands the absolute best from all around him, which can come across as arrogant.
As a person though appears to be very well thought of by past and present colleagues and does an awful lot for charity in terms of donations and his time.

Ronaldo and Messi are just on a different planet to anyone else.

For me this World Cup will go a long way to determining who is the greatest ever. Maradonna and Pele both performed on the highest stage. Scoring bag loads of goals in La Liga, for the best two teams in the world is one thing - winning a World Cup for your country is another. Ronaldo has started on fire, let’s see what Messi can do in response.
