I don’t know much about this band, except a few good football mates are big fans. They absolutely nail this classic Replacements tune. & I found it on Tommy Stinson’s fb page. So that’s obviously the best recommendation. I always saw some connection between Yorkshire & Minnesota. Not just the Replacements, Husker Du etc.. But Dylan & Prince too. Coincidence or not, but this tune was written & recorded during our mining strike. Before these kids were probably born. I think about stuff like this. The Replacements’ families were steel workers, as Mark Linkous’ dad was a coal miner. It’s natural kids like me & the younger Cribs lads would find songs like this. & those Lyrics don’t age, just become increasingly relevant.
Can't post links without son to help, but I recall more fondly as time passes my remembrance of Rachel Sweet's version of Everlasting Love. It's probably pants.
Blimey. It sounds somewhat dated. And not good. Perhaps mono brought out it's best aspects. Plus from that cover Rex looks more sweet than Rachel!! Where's that crush thread cos i remember now....
Carter's version of Down In The Tube Station At Midnight is absolutely cracking. Brave to cover such a classic song but they really pulled it off. Likewise Dexys version of Breaking Down The Walls of Heartache. A classic song which they really make their own.
