Who did Brian Howard score from a 20 yard chip against during a midweek game at Oakwell? My memory tells me it was either Cardiff or QPR. Which means it was probably neither

    Darren Barnard v Huddersfield
    Clint Marcelle v Bradford
Derek Bell v Grimsby to clinch promotion from Division 4, not a classic but first time i'd seen us win promotion so meant a lot to me. 21,000 fans for a division 4 match was incredible.

Couldn't find any footage. It was a relight goal.

Was my a hero of mine too. First one since Glavin. Cooper seems to be thought of fondly by most supporters I think, we took to him, and him to us.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. TV cameras being at football grounds for every game which we all take for granted now has only happened over the last 20, or 25 years or so.

Was it a Tuesday match that never helps with footage.

Cooper's goal? It was on the Easter Monday of 1989 with an afternoon kick off.
Two days earlier, we lost 5-3 at champions elect Chelsea. Jim Dobbin (who got our third against Sunderland) also scored with a superb chipped shot.

Still my favourite away kit but you have a point as always.

I always liked it. Although my favourite away kit has always been white shirt, black shorts and socks.

That was the first time I'd seen us lose at Stamford Bridge. My previous two visits saw us win 2-1 in Autumn 1981 & 3-0 in the Spring of 1983.

1 Barnard's wonder strike against Hudds

2 "The Jones boy" Power header rwhere he came from nowhere to meet the cross and the ball hitting the back of the net against Manure lives in my memory.

3Maybe I dreamt some of it but many years ago I stood on the kop when it was pretty much still a slag heap as it was on a cold damp Tuesday night match against Hartlepool. Bob Earnshaw who was fast but often forgot to take the ball with him received the ball from the keeper (Ironside I think it was) just outside our own area on the RH side of the pitch in front of the West stand. He set off down the right wing like sh*t off a shovel and went round/past three of their players and we fully expected him to lose the ball as he had run so fast none of our lads had kept up so he had no support. It was difficult to see what happened next from the Kop as the floodlights were not that great in those days and it was getting a bit murky with the drizzle, but I swear to God he went round about 3 or four more defenders (one or two of them twice) and then buried the ball in the back of the net. I think there were a couple of seconds silence before the Barnsley fans went mad. Does anyone remember that night late 60s very early 70s?

Don't know if it's because I was younger and less cynical back then but not only was it reasonably priced
to get into home games you turned up expecting to see a Barnsley win, the crowds seemed more appreciative
of the football that was played, there didn't appear to be so much " gamesmanship" and the referee who's name you didn't know unless you had a programme rarely tried to make himself the centre of attention.
The 4-0 win against Chelsea was a stand out game . Found the article below from 2008 about that game.

Worst referees I have ever seen at Oakwell : Trevor Kettle. How I dislike that man but the blue riband
would go to Gary Willard v Liverpool in the Premiership season. Ruined a great game. Left Oakwell that
day thinking the world was against us. What a wassack.!

What a day that was. Brilliant walking through the glowering ranks of their fans back to our car
and finding out when we put radio Dee Dah on that we'd gone top of the league.
Still laughing when we got home.
    Best Christmas ever.!

Mines from when I was a kid in the 70s... Maybe not the best, but I can remember em like Yesterday..

Peter Price vs Southport.. It was a Wonder header from just inside the box...Kop end

Ally Millar vs Northhampton.. We won 5-1 Millar bent one round Alan Starling from the tightest of angel Ponty End

Derek Bell vs Grimsby..Promotion clincher in Alan Clarkes first season from Div4, 25k crowd, Ponty End
