Not a bad shout Upton - 4 trains to leeds every hour from fitzwilliam without actually living in Fitzwilliam or Hemsworth and you can juggle the Emsall stations too.

is this just a thread of folk saying where they live is nice? :) ....it must be otherwise they'd move?

if i was moving back id probably like to live over the west of the M1, value for money wise wombwell / manvers looks ok if cash is the key. As for nice , not so nice places everywhere has that street no one wants to live on all around the country

I grew up in and around the dearne villages and it still seems the cheapest place to live looking at rightmove, would i be moving there however? prob not.

This half season pass is turning out to be the best present I've ever received! Who would've thought that back in December?

I would say this growing up there but you could do worse than Penistone/Thurlstone/Millhouse Green/Ingbirchworth/Hoylandswaine. Lots of other nice villages nearby too that are just outside the borough, Midhopestones, Shepley, Denby Dale etc.

All 20 odd minutes or less from Barnsley, all 10 mins or less from the Peak District

Look at Wakefield if you are wanting a short commute into Leeds , Outwood , Stanley, Pinders Heath , Lofthouse plenty of decent properties , obviously Durkar is best place for access to Leeds and Barnsley , one of my lads commutes to Leeds everyday by public transport

I'd say Wakefield as well, good if you work in Barnsley or Leeds, and some nice areas.

Is Adel the only place in Leeds you're looking? I can think of plenty of decent areas where 2-3 bed semis would be nowhere near £300k.

That's where I'd move to if I moved back to Barnsley. Some nice houses up near Locke Park too...

I'm stuck because I need to live in sight of the nature reserves along the Dearne.

But if I wasn't so wrapped up in wildlife, especially birds, then I think the area from Arthurs Castle to the hospital would be a good place to live - cos you can just walk into town from there e.g. pubs, railway station etc.

We were quite stuck for places as the husband works in Leeds City Centre, I work in Bradford and I'm really, really picky! We were looking mainly around the Adel/Cookridge area and then extended it to include more of Horsforth. There are some cheaper houses around there but they are mainly of non-standard construction or in the really awful parts of an otherwise nice area. 250k seemed to be the minimum for an ok 2/3 bed semi in a nice area. The husband was wanting to be near a train station (when we could afford to be more picky) and that drove prices up in those areas too.

I've worked in Leeds centre 26yrs. Live in Darton (30mins commute on M1). Also lived Mapplewell and Barugh Green. If you've got money to spend, Cawthorne's where brass is.
