Only time I've been to Charlton was to see Kim Christensen score..... https://www.theguardian.com/football/2007/oct/08/match.barnsley Great day out especially with the rugby World Cup England win getting all four sides of the ground to sing together. Could only have been bettered if Grant McCann hadn't missed a sitter in injury time.
And the rest. The 1-1 draw was late in the 80-81 promotion season. Banks scored with a free kick and Paul Walsh equalised (I think). Aylott scored a lovely goal later that year in a 2-1 defeat just before we beat Man City in the League Cup. We also lost something like 3-2 a season or two later with Glavin putting in a proverbial rasping drive. Then there was the 5-3 defeat with Futcher putting us 3-0 up and getting sent off. I don't think I've been back since. In 81 a lot of that terrace was taped off as it was crumbling. The police or council had closed part of it for safety reasons. I stood right at the top and was as high above the pitch as the top of the East Stand at Oakwell is now. It was also a long walk from the turnstile to the terrace, about the same as from the bus station to Oakwell.
We had Jan Molby playing for us that day and when Redders scored that free kick me and some fat bloke jumped into each others arms and fell down about two rows of seats cheering like idiots. Fantastic.
I was there for a first match of the season fixture to see us lose 3-1. Clive Mendonca did the damage for them. Some time during the 90s and I had stupidly arranged for someone to get me a ticket in Barnsley and meet me there with it. I was living in Gloucester at the time. Well, she was on one of the supporters’ buses that was delayed (I cannot remember why). I ended up having to buy another ticket as I didn’t know if she would make it. Great! Pay double to see them well beaten but at least it was a warm, sunny day.
