As some of you know, I'm a keen walker and a happy clapper on here.

On Monday 15th April I'm setting off to walk the Wild Yorkshire Way, which is a 526 mile walk of my own design, taking in all of the beautiful scenery that Yorkshire has to offer. It includes most of the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Cleveland Way, parts of the Three Peaks, Pennine Way and Trans Pennine Trail, and a small section of the Coast to Coast Walk. I'm doing this entirely on my own, and the walk will take me about 6 weeks. I'll be camping quite often as the cost of staying in B & Bs every night for 6 weeks will be prohibitive.

I'm doing the walk mainly for fun, but the reason for this post is to ask if any of you would consider making a contribution to the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, which is my local mountain rescue team for the Dark Peak area. Like all rescue teams it is funded almost entirely by voluntary donations. I'd be happy to acknowledge your help on my website if you'd like to help. I must stress I'm not looking for any personal sponsorship - I'm funding the walk entirely myself.

You can see more info on me here, a summary of my route here, and once I get going on Monday there will be live updates of my progress here. If you'd like to help, the Just Giving link below will take people directly to the contribution website, but if not that's of course fine too. Thanks for reading and have a good day.

Stahlrost, I will donate the money from the bet I had with ongoingcloud that Akinfenwa would score 17 goals plus this season! Consider it done

Thank you, I hope I feel the same about it when I'm wallowing in black porridge on Little Whernside in a few weeks.

That looks amazing. I’ve started doing more walking myself, but am nowhere near taking on a challenge like that! I recently did a 7 mile walk around Elsecar, Wentworth and Harley and the knees and feet were starting to complain a bit!

Good luck with it, I’ll keep an eye out for your updates and make a donation too...

It's not that type of walk, sadly. Or did you mean blisters?

Who starts a 6 week walk when the end of the season is coming to a climax?! Priorities all wrong.... and then asking for donations for what is a glorified pub crawl? The cheek.

Seriously though good luck. I'll be donating.

Nope, actually I'm doing it anticlockwise, as it's an easier start and it will get the old legs toned up before I get to the big bits, and it's a magnificent finish in the Dark Peak. If all goes well I'll be on the Trans Pennine trail towards Hull in the first week, the Wolds Way in the second week, then the Cleveland Way after that for about 10 days. After that it's anybody's guess! I have actually completed the entire route once, but in bits and pieces over a 3 year period. Now I want to prove to myself that I can do the entire thing in one go.

I do know what you mean about work, kids, wives etc. That's why I'm doing it now - I'm retired, I've no kids and my missus is on standby in Germany as her second grandchild is due today! Even if I tried speaking to her, I wouldn't get any response if there's a baby knocking about. Good time to get out into the countryside :D

Yep, there'll be a live map on my website with a little blue blob indicating where I am. If it stops moving, don't panic, it will probably because I've stumbled across a pub.

How about a "rosy glow" to match your inner feeling when partaking a refreshing tonic at each evenings hostelry?
