Wage bills account for around 92% of all success Bournemouth have spent a tremendous amount of money in terms of wages its just as simple as that. Depends if you know of someone willing to bankroll us more than our current owner.
And then they got lots of investment following the boom and bust model as they have through their history. Howe was not particularly a success at Burnley where he did not have the same financial advantages. I do like Howe as a manager though he is a good forward thinking bloke. Quick question for you Arsenals early successes under Wenger a result of brilliant management or a result of a massive cash injection by the then owner?
Can't really remember all the players he signed in the early days but the keeper, five regular defenders, Bergkamp and Ian Wright were all at the club when he took over. I know he spent about 500k on Anelka and sold him for a huge profit, I don't know how much he spent on Petit, Overmars and Viera. Do I think he is a brilliant manager? Yes I do.
There was an investment of about £50million quid at the time he took over which was very significant at the time. In a recent interview Martin Keown who is one of Wenger's biggest fans said that this contributed just as much to the success as the changes that Arsene brought in. I also think Wenger is a fantastic manager who brought a new dimension to British Football. His model was then copied and those with greater buying overtook him and he has been unable to respond.
I was wrong about you Mario, at least you're able to post an opinion and back it up with some sort of reasoning. However- lets look at the facts, if we were to compete next season, we would need a 8 or 10 new players. Lets look at our squad shall we? We only have 5 or 6 players who would arguably get in any team in the top half of our division, and considering we were relegated last season that's terrible. We're going to MK Dons on Saturday and I would accept a 2-0 loss, that's just how poor we are now. We're Barnsley Football Club- how many good youngsters have we produced? name me more than 10 players who's careers we've helped kick on? We're not Arsenal- all this talk of planning for the future. is in my opinion nonsense. Please wake up and realise that we're a bottom half sized Championship club who are really underachieving.
I vote to keep Danny forever, if only to annoy whingebag Zazlos. Are we allowed to guess Lord Johnson's previous/other BBS username?
I've never had different username, it's not Scotland YARD- I'm more than happy to give you any details you would like to know.
I definitely think it’s a case of glass half full v glass half empty. There is an argument that even the top two sides don’t have the best eleven players in the league, they have some good players but are all eleven better than the players in every other team – I don’t think so. We certainly don’t have the strongest team but it looks to me like Danny is trying to build a squad that will be more than competitive for the future which may mean a year of transition (football speak for *****). I’ll take this if we can see improvement next season. I think there was universal agreement on here at the end of last season that we had to rip that squad up and start again from scratch, this is what Danny has done and although there seems to have been a backwards step this season I genuinely believe that we have had to go backwards so we can go forwards. I’m going to be patient this season and really start to judge Danny and his squad next season.
Had a good chat with an old mate yesterday, not seen him in years as he moved abroad. But he returned last summer and he's been a regular down at Oakwell this season, and away when he can get. We always used to see things similarly. His opinions of Danny though right now are nothing like mine. Made me look at things a little differently. I have to agree, he's made a right pigs ear of his second spell. I think I'm excusing that though because of all the context and mitigation. but when you look around at other clubs/managers in similar circs and with less money etc, you can't help but realise Danny's doing well to retain so much support. Redstar said it last night. He's getting harder to defend.
