Well given that you want to fill the skip with our entire squad, I must admit that Bahre needs to be chucked in there if you think that the others do - cos he was gash today.

I'd still save a few of them, upon the basis of previous displays. For now. Even Bahre.

But I must admit that we looked midtable mediocrity League 1 today. Sadly.

A great, exciting game and convincing win it certainly wasn't, but I wouldn't say the performance was woeful.

    Tuesday was woeful.

I thought there were positives. A clean sheet after conceding 7 in our previous 3 games being the obvious one.

    Summat to build on.

If you had said Mediocre, most would have agreed.

    Mediocre needed a capital M?

    Or am I missing something?

Result over performance every time for me. First half we weren’t great but second half, I thought we controlled it and I don’t remember them getting near our box really.

I thought there were a few players today that had their worst home game of the season (in my opinion of course) but we still managed the win so there’s a positive in that.

Mediocre means average, which I would agree with, but not woeful, unless you think woeful and average are the same?

Ps. I didn't put the capital in purposely. My phone did that.

I would say that our performing in an only average ("not very good") way, in League 1,like today, is woeful.

    Perhaps my expectations exceed yours.

And I am only commentating upon this one game.

Ideally we would win every game with style and panache. If we can't do that then just win.

We were bang average today. Worryingly so after 2 previous awful performances. But hey, bang average is an improvement on awful. Its a start. I'll take it. But it wasn't thrilling was it.

You're just digging yourself into a hole now pal. It's nothing to do with expectations or how you see the league.

You said the performance was woeful and then mediocre. Can't be both.

Don't try to condescend to me about expectations. Mine are realistic based on 40 years of watching BFC. What is it about them that makes you expect them to play well in every game?

Spot on. But without the worrying bit.

Yes. Woeful. We were at home against Bristol Rovers.

They have 14 points from 16 games. So others in this league have been regularly beating them.

Therefore today being fortunate to beat them is woeful, especially so having regard to the team display.

Well the performance can be both. Depending upon the context. Mediocre for Barnsley, but woeful for League 1 given our built in advantages when compared to many teams.

I expect nothing when I watch Barnsley. If your realism involves swallowing a performance like today without criticism, then good luck.

In our case, the greatest saving grace is often the capacity to be able to groan about what we've seen, and why we still go.

I post on here my own version of the game. This game.

They'd lost 7 before today. Won 3 drawn 5, so not even lost half of their games.

Have they been beaten convincingly in those games? I dunno, but having only a -3 goal difference suggests not.

You can only beat what's in front of you. Looking at the table and expecting is never a good plan.

I don't need any luck thanks. I don't see any need for criticism. I acknowledged further up the thread that it wasn't a great game or convincing win, but a win non the less.

If you expect nothing, then why talk about my expectations being lower than yours?

You won't find me slagging off Bristol Rovers for their efforts today.

But if you want to get promoted then you need to put teams like Bristol Rovers away more comfortably than we did today.

It'd be nice to say it was a bad day at the office had we not been beaten convincingly in the last 2 games.

There's a problem that needs solving if we're to kick on from here.
