Just wow. Some serious explanations required. How to undo 12 months hard work, alienate your fan base and probably manager in one fell swoop. This is actually ridiculous.
Can't get my head round it especially after the we don't have to sell speach. 1million for conor hourhine is the worst bit of bussiness I've seen supporting this club and I've seen some bad ones. Totally pissed off.
Hears your explanation.... We're a selling club, it's the absolute foundation, on which our business plan is based on.
been a selling club is one thing, selling for the sake of it rather than gambling a couple of million and having a go at the play offs is another. Last time we were this high in the league and sold players off was when vaz te left. Look where we ended up after that, lessons not learnt. 100 milion for getting in the prem, would that not be worth the gamble of losing both for nothing in the summer rather than a couple of million that we arent desperate for. Now all chances will be gone and gates next year will drop off massively, how depressing. So glad we are away sat i would really struggle to go right now.
You may be correct, but what I'd we sign some new players who are better? Why not wait until 1st February and see where we are then?
Because we already have a good first team so hoping that you may get better players is a huge gamble and a huge gamble shouldn't be taken from such paltry sums.
Half agree, obviously I'd prefer it if we didn't sell our best players. But how can any fan judge things until we know which, if any, replacements have arrived? I'm just going to get on with life and wait and see.
Obviously they've got his replacement lined up, for the summer, perhaps we've been given the nod we could get them in this month, and this £1m pays for it all, it's what our strategy is, we were happy enough with it last season.
All you can do is try to look at it all objectively. Positives; We won't get into an ugly public feud with two players wanting to leave. 1.5 mill will pay some wages for six months or so. Players we try to sign will see that Barnsley don't stand in the way of players willing to better themselves. Maybe there's some add ons for future transfer fees, promotion add ons etc. All conjecture and we won't know until the accounts come out, or never. Negatives; Strengthen promotion rivals Strengthen local rivals Risk a massive downturn in form losing almost all of our goal threat Alienate fan base Set precedent for Roberts, Bree et al. Dig your heels in and we'll buckle and sell you for peanuts. Lose out on potential windfall from panic bids on deadline day for teams desperate for goal scoring forwards and goal creating midfielder. Probably piss off other squad members. This lack of ambition can have a negative effect. Piss off the manager? I can't imagine he'll be on board with all this. It's not looking great on balance is it?
I agree st we have had so many bad seasons in the past 17 years the struggling to survive in the championship every year to the Wilsons diabolical return then we had lee Jay and along the way sold our best players for peanuts. Now we are 8th have the best chance of the championship play offs in 17 years and we are selling our best midfielder and top scorer to a play off rival not fair on fans unforgivable.
