............ don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Ok - you will probably want to make a statement of intent once you get hold of the club. That statement of intent MUST NOT include the appointment of a new manager. We don't need a high profile 'spend loads of money' type of manager. Many clubs have tried that strategy and failed. We currently have the best manager in this league - backed up by the best player recruitment team in this league. So all what is required to improve the quality of the playing squad is to allow the present manager to have more money at his disposal when dealing in the transfer market. PS ..... really looking forward to you getting started.
It all seems to be edging closer to reality. I'm not sure the articles in the Mail and Times would have appeared if things weren't nearing completion. Then it's a case of fingers crossed and hope for the best. I'm off out to try and buy a copy of Moneyball today!
Of course he will have. But once they sign on the dotted line - and it looks like it's not going to be long before that happens - then they are entitled to do what they want. But this is not a message from Patrick - this is a message from ordinary fans - the vast majority who will agree with this statement. Please do NOT sack this manager as part of a statement of intent - because if you do, then you will lose the support of a large swath of the supporters.
I agree with you 100% Nudger, except this bit... I think we have the best young manager in the country. I'm pretty sure the new owners will have been told all about our most valuable asset and will not want to lose him.
Are you back at Oakwell then, mate? I thought you'd quit supporting Barnsley last season, January time wasn't it? I could be wrong, mind. Your posts are often so contradictory from one day to the next, it's tricky to keep up. Good to have you back on board though if so. Would hate to lose large swathes of supporters such as your good self..
It could work against our principles if we end up with too much money available for new players. We have done marvellously well so far and are the envy of many other clubs due to sticking to our principles and I wouldn't really want to join the spend, spend, spend world just to seek success. However..... wouldn't it be nice to see what might happen? To live the dream again? It's a dilemma, but a good one.
I think our recruiting will still be good but hopefully we'd able to turn more loans into permanents. Ashley Fletcher, Ryan Kent, Harvey Barnes etc.
No my posts are not contradictory - it's just that some people miss posts what I have made. So to those that quote me - you need to employ better researchers. And yes I'm back at the WELL. Couldn't stand going after January because I knew what was coming - and said so on here in January - even though I got slated for it. To say the wheels came off last season is an understatement. Let's hope we don't see any other seasons like the last one. With a little bit of investment in January we could have been playing Liverpool or Chelsea this weekend - and not a down and out club like Villa
I believe their Mission statement has already been disclosed re- don't intend to throw millions at it, but are prepared to fund a tilt at promotion. To my mind as I have said previously, that indicates that they are not planning dramatic immediate change, but will probably opt for steady controlled growth. In essence our current structure has been moderately successful in that hitherto, we have held our own with an excellent young Manager in a very tough League. As we know, the major downside to real progression has been the need to sell our best players to consolidate our position and that is something the new regime will be only too aware of. The first thing to do, is to reverse that particular trend. Their goal and that of the current squad is surely Premiership football because of the rewards that that can bring. To achieve that, more cash must be made available to buy and pay the wages of some established quality players to compliment what we already have to make that dream become a possible reality. Once we reach the Premiership ( because I believe that is where we are heading), other considerations i.e. improved capacity via ground and comfort enhancements could well follow. Only time will provide us with those answers of course. I personally hope that being fully aware of the history of the Club, the members of the Consortium have invested with the genuine intention of it being a long term project and our future "prospects" are a major reason they are buying the Club. Patrick and his family must surely be 100% certain that they are doing the right thing, otherwise even accounting for his unfortunate medical condition , he would have put other plans in place in deference to the sale of his beloved Barnsley FC.
We could also have blown all the money the club has , still missed out and be looking forward to Fleetwood etc and losing the best manager we have had in a long long time. So as whitey said wcome back nice to see you while we winning.
Read the Times article the "Moneyball" blue print on recruitment is exactly the same as ours - probably where Patrick got the idea from! Wouldn't surprise me if "Mr Bean" isn't the new chairman.
This squad is potentially even more exciting than the one that got promoted. If the new money simply helped us keep it together that would be massive for us. Anything beyond that would be a bonus.
You said this on the 31st August Nudge http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/losing-maurice-watkins-is-a-massive-blow-to-the-club.259029/
Hopefully subject to the new owners pouring millions in. Fletcher cost £7 million recently and the wages don't come cheap. We'd have to break the club's wage structure which would have a knock on effect right through the playing staff.
