He's not forced to leave yet, said he made a big mistake last time, if were still in this league with how he's doing her be worth a mill, offer him a bit more money you never no he might like it here.
If for example Huddersfield came in for him I'd want 2 million with a further 1 million if they stayed up.
Ronnie was a midfielder and, with all due respect to Devante, on a completely different planet as a footballer.
I don't think anyones said he's only worth £500k. Some, including myself have said we probably won't get much more for him, but that's no criticism of him.
There are definitely some on here saying we should sell him for 500K or even less far better to do that than get nowt in the summer. I'm am sure its just a vocal minority eg this earlier in this thread https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/devante-cole.327317/page-9#post-3232873 There are others but I cant be bothered to look. One ST holder who doesnt post on here actually said in a different chat group he would take £250K as he doesnt rate Cole at all
Of course he was on a different planet to every other player we have had with arguably Redfern the only once close in the last 50 years But I dont get the negativity towards Cole - as League 1 strikers go he has proved he is good at this level at least. Yesterdays goal for example was far from a tap in. He has won me over in the last year or so
Personally, I would take £250k for him. But I'm not a football club and £250k is several years wages.
I'm utterly baffled at some of the sentiment I read about Devante Cole. He's served us well, and is well on track to be our leading goal scorer for successive seasons. He's never had the adoration of fans, and I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks the same. As far as value goes, IMO value and worth are different things. He's 'worth' the highest amount another team is willing to pay. But until the end of this season, I think he's invaluable to us. Anything less than 7 figures is highly unlikely to get us someone that can come straight in as a replacement and give us the same amount of goals. I don't think he'll be with us next season, but I would like to think they have learned from the Norwood balls up. Obviously I don't have a crystal ball, but I genuinely think if he goes in January, that ends our promotion push.
Let's face it, our promotion hopes are over if he does leave us (no disrespect to our other players). Will this lot just think its a brilliant offer and accept it, and as somebody else asked, what/who will they spend it on.
One of the most prolific goalscorers was Craig Hignett. 77 games, 35 goals, 21 assists. His average goals per game tops The king and Redders. Cole Tbf. Goals wise. Are I think, all from open play.
