I think I will contradict myself and add Brian Joicey, who was division 4 top scorer with us when he was 31ish !
Depends what you class as peak? If it’s playing top football after being 30 there’s quite a few but debatable what was peak. Couple of examples Sheringham, Drogba, Benzim even maybe Stanley Matthews.
Strikers who remained prolific well into their 30's, just off the top of my head: Teddy Sheringham Dean Windass Kevin Phillips Clive Mendonca John Aldridge Luis Suarez Cristiano Ronaldo Leo Messi Dave Regis
£500k ? Really? And who is going to score the goals? I take it that you have no interest in our securing promotion?
Wouldn’t bother mate, he didn’t reply in the last thread about the same thing when asked why he accused others of lacking ‘realism’ when they challenged him
Jordan Rhodes has scored the same amount of goals in a poorer team and Huddersfield didn't recall him, so I would be surprised if they were interested.
With the sell him attitude we definitely won't. Club are in a hard place we sell the goals dry up and end up out of the play offs it's the boards fault and people will be spitting feathers. We keep and don't go up we lose for nowt should have sold etc.
Yes I did, and again I will say no club will offer £1million for a player whose contract expires in June & had already failed at Championship level. If the club want to cash in then IN MY OPINION 500k would be an acceptable figure, but that’s based on me not rating him as high as you. I’m not going to change your mind & vice versa, so I’ll agree to disagree.
Tbh though how we rate him is irrelevant, the fact is he's equal second top scorer in the league, and one tomorrow would make him equal top. That is how he'll get rated by other clubs whilst the transfer window is open.
You didn’t reply to my response to your reply. I’ll say it again, a player is worth what a club is willing to pay. Some clubs may not want to pay above half a million for a player who has a few months left on his contract, but if they really want him they’ll risk not getting him at all in the Summer. Some clubs may feel a Million is worth paying. I say you’re being pessimistic not realistic
Right, but you’re forgetting we’re Barnsley FC, not exactly prolific for a long time now at getting top dollar for players, other clubs know this. I don’t think he’ll end up leaving by the way, I think a couple of clubs will put in a few cheeky offers below say £450k & the club will hold out, but I just can’t see any club being that desperate in terms of not waiting until his contract expires.
Tinpot. We don’t want to go up. The board are filling their pockets. They’ve had our pants down. We always sell cheap. He’ll be off. I feel better getting that off my chest. ;-)
Christiano Ronaldo scored 48 League Goals for Real Madrid in the season he turned 30, the most he ever scored. Plus a further 13 for Real in other competitions bringing the total to 61, again, the most he ever scored. He scored 51, 42 and 44 in the following three seasons for Real. He then went to Juve and scored 81 league goals in 98 games over three seasons. Much earlier in his career it took him 196 games and 6 seasons to score 86 for Man Utd. When he returned to Man Utd aged 36 he scored 18 in 30 league games, 24 in 38 games in total. This was a better strike rate than his last season at Man Utd aged 23/24 before leaving for Real when he got 18 in 33 league games, 26 in 53 in total. For Portugal he scored double figures in a calendar year on 5 separate occasions. The youngest of those being when he was 31. Prior to being 30 he played 79 games for Portugal scoring 41 goals. Since turning 30 he's played 74 games for Portugal scoring 67 goals Obviously, Ronaldo's not a normal player, he's a machine, and he's far from typical. But he changed from very good player into a machine in his late 20s and carried that on into his 30s. In our promotion season to the Prem Redfearn was 31 and Hendrie 33. They both had excellent careers but I don't think either of them had previously played better or scored more goals.
