Wife is a Man Utd fan !! ;-) Joking aside this puts the club in a difficult position. The club seems to have worked on this for a while which is pretty normal and others will have been in the mix too. But the club must have relaxed on some options as this one was expected to complete today. The fees and availability in the market will now be an issue and Plan B, C or D will need stepping up.
Don't panic. Max will be scoring for fun by the end of September and we'll all wonder what the fuss was about....
It's frustrating but we can't blame the club for a player changing his mind, we've just got to be patient now and see who we do get.
Well, there's certainly significant risk in the current failure to secure anyone; 36 more hours without sIgNiNg a StRiKeR all but guarantees an inability to get promoted and locks in yet another year of big operating losses. How long before they fritter their inheritances and have to bail?
Standard of living in Sweden is very high. Perhaps he didn’t want to be slumming it in Gateway Plaza with his family.
Family reasons could mean that the wife and any children would struggle to get a visa to join him in the UK. So, it could all have been agreed with the player until that was discovered. Just a theory.
If we got as far down the line as doing a medical without realising that, it's just negligent, so hopefully we can discard that theory.
I was in Copenhagen last week. Many of my colleagues lived in Malmo but worked in Copenhagen - the pay was better and the exchange rate was beneficial to them. Lots of Danes went shopping in Sweden because it was cheaper. But the player currently lives in the middle of nowhere, Holland.
Good point, well made. Perhaps his family like to relax in the coffee shops of Amsterdam and eat cheese toasties. Perhaps Attercliffe doesn’t live up to Amsterdam in terms of ladies of the night…
If we're just randomly speculating, then perhaps he was put off by a bunch of locals trying to burn down a hotel full of people a few weeks ago.
