Are we actually any better at set pieces or have we just got two man mountains in Roberts & Pines now? It’s not like De Gevigney & Earl are suddenly chipping in with goals
Didn’t realise that TBH, personally I think it takes similar time to judge a DoF as they inherit a long term set up that takes time to change.
Losing Kane and Williams was always going to impact us. It maybe wasn’t obvious last year, but you could see they couldn’t be replaced easily. Cotter looked better yesterday - but that’s because he was facing a lower L1 side. Against a top 6 team he’s not good enough.
That was Conors role within the staff before being promoted to assistant head coach after retiring. There was an article in one of the match day programmes about it a while back.
A lot of people saying he’s had four months. The SEASON has been going for four and a half. He’s been in position since May. He’s been at the club for seven months, not four. He was in early. He controlled all preseason. This isn’t laying all blame at his feet or even advocating his sacking. The problems go beyond him and are bigger than him. But he is part of the problem and saying he’s had four months isn’t accurate. He had two and a half months before the season started to get into them and drill down his expectations etc. and in his first game we were two nil down at home to his hometown club and looking abject after under 20 minutes. I don’t see a huge amount of value in sacking him but I wouldn’t be disappointed if we did.
Sacking him is absolutely the wrong thing to do IMO. There are problems all over the place. We've lost Roberts and were also without Connell, Phillips and Earl. These are not trivial misses. Fans pressuring the Club to sack managers after such a short spell are part of the problem IMO. It doesn't help the situation. It just makes it worse.
it makes it worse because he was the wrong appointment in the first place, the more worrying thing is that we are only about 11 points above the relegation places never mind close to the playoffs. sack the head coach at this point I have no idea but the club is heading in a downward spiral and the people at the top need to realise this before it’s too late but I don’t hold out hope.
Tbf it's easy to say that in hindsight. At the time, I don't remember many people objecting to the appointment. I seem to recall most people being behind it. An honest bloke, a motivator, someone with promotions under his belt and who gets players playing for him. All solid ingredients. No one will be surprised if he doesn't last the season. But then what? Who next? I just cannot see how giving a manager half a season is sustainable.
that is down to the board, the head coaches we have sacked wasn’t up to the job in the first place, the head coaches we got right have jumped ship at the first opportunity. Does it really matter what the fans think, I really think that they don’t. It’s there way or the highway, to say the fans got Collins sacked when he did was ludicrous, it’s all down to the board I am afraid. Fans don’t matter, as some will say it’s there money they are losing and they can do what they want. We as fans have just got to put up with it what choice do we have. The attendance at Oakwell proves that. Football in general has got to not caring about the point of fans and is just rich people’s play thing, fans don’t matter anymore
Cotter is not brilliant but he is a trier and is definitely better than okeefe, plus when he goes on a run you detect a buzz in the crowd
Fans do matter, because the board wouldn't have sacked Collins if not for fan toxicity. Getting rid of Clarke now would be stupid. Every year since we got relegated from Championship people keep saying X, Y & Z about relegation to league 2 and they're always miles off it. This season will be the same.
I don't agree that the fans had no influence in Collins getting sacked. I think they had a huge influence. I think they always do. That aside, if we sacked him tomorrow, who would you bring in? On our budget, with the managers out there that are available? If you look at the top 6: - Matt Bloomfield - signed him from Colchester, with less than 30 games under his belt. Chris Davies - Wales' kids coach, no previous League management experience before getting the Birmingham job Phil Parkinson - old school manager, never once been on our radar when we've been in for a manager. No way could we get him here now Michael Duff - least said the better Dave Challinor - joined from Hartlepool. No way could we get him here now Michael Skubala - first job as a manager with Lincoln So 4 out of the 6, were all relative unknowns, with very little experience. If we sacked DC and followed him with someone with that type of profile, our fans would go absolutely mental. Tell me who would be a better choice, if we sacked DC tomorrow? And I mean someone we could actually realistically bring in. Bear in mind our player budget would be impacted from the get go, due to the compo they would have to pay DC. Fans make this all sound so easy. It really isn't.
Similarly, some on FB were delighted no Phillips or Connell in Saturdays squad, and I’ve read on here ‘I’d rest Connell’. Went well didn’t it?
I Mentioned Dave challinor on another forum over 6 years ago - he was still at fylde at the time. these managers are out there - Craig rouse at cleethorpes town is proving to be very very capable I agree managers need time, but DC is being afforded time that other managers were more worthy of . The red flags are there and he needs to rethink his strategy of constantly throwing players under the bus as unfortunately the buck stops with him. He talks in cliches and gives no substance to his comments , it’s okay saying xyz, but tell us why and what they should have done. He seems very up and down mood wise on interviews - I’m sorry but this emotional gubbins doesn’t cut it for me ( no doubt he would phrase it as wearing his heart on his sleeve). A manager should be at a constant level , defend his players and do his berating behind the scenes. Personally I think he’s too used to dealing with clubs who don’t expect much as opposed to a fan base who want promotion at league 1. that said we are still within touching distance of the playoffs so if he is still learning about himself and his players (no doubt something else he’s said), then he needs to do it quickly. I think fractures are developing within the playing staff and quite a few of these need to be sorted out (this is just my observation and not based on anything) and moved on. this is a trigger happy club who bulleted a manager out of panic in large due to fan reaction a game before the end of a season when in 5th (or 6th), a couple of bad results could easily see him go as they will likely panic that we’re out of touch of the playoffs - some of these players will look more like they’re playing to get him sacked over the next few games I reckon.
Spot on Scott, secretly Clarke will be laughing his c*ck off thinking how’s he landed a job like this. What was he at the time 11th choice manager even behind the half time draw man. This is what happens when you get a pub league standard manager, cheap option and the amateurs that own us employing him. how many of our owners are savvy business people who have made their money ? How many of our owners were born into money made by their parents / families ? The club is dying fast under this lot, mid table league one in an absolute garbage league in the whole.
Collins got the sack when we were in the playoffs and winning games at home . I said then be careful what you wish for.
