I'm not desperate for a shout. If you need some help, I begrudgingly will. It was more a public kick up the arse than a 'I want to be involved'. Sorry, I know that's not very nice, but I've had a few beers!
@Gally I tagged you in a thread the other day making exactly the same point as @Jay (the gret copycat). How’s our genius businessmen owners other clubs doing? | Page 2 | The Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum I realise that the ST has to encompass a broad church of supporter opinion, but there's clearly enough ill feeling toward the owners now to at least warrant that the ST is in regular contact with the 'sister' clubs about the ownership group. I also realise that I'm a non-ST member calling on the ST to take a particular course of action, which isn't really fair. My perception of the ST currently is that it's too close to the club to really want to tackle the issue, and so it's not really a group that represents me. But there aren't any other groups which do, nor are there any that I think have the credibility to carry an impact. Don't you think it's time the ST took a firmer position? You've been mugged off by the owners having tried to follow due process, so what's next? I think if you did, you'd find you have a greater potential to rally supporters to your cause than you think.
Also, whatever's 'going on,' share it wider. I'm sure a lot more people would like to help, and will have skills that can assist you with whatever the aim is.
Might be worth speaking to Blackpool fans ahead of Tues. They'll remember the Oystons and might be able to give guidance. I remember going there and being asked not to spend anything in the ground by their fans who were boycotting. They've come through that ok, despite going up and down a bit.
Good to hear. Can only say then that as a fan base, we've never needed to hear about it as urgently as we do now.
Whatever things are going on mate, please don't make it a closed shop. I'm not suggesting you will, I'm just imploring you not to. People have genuinely had enough of 'watch this space'. There needs to be loud voices, swift action, solidarity and strength in numbers. Not plotting behind closed doors. And apols if my tone sounds off. Genuinely not the intention. I'm just pi$$ed off with the whole situation. Enough's enough. Get people involved.
I read your post from the other day this evening. After I'd written this. And at first I felt really guilty, then I though, ah f**k it, I'll take your credit! Sorry man, if I'd known you posted what you did I would have just linked to that. You were there before me, wasn't trying to steal your thunder, apologies.
I haven't criticised the ST in the past as a) I've never known an issue where I felt the need and b) I appreciate the work that is done, the time that is freely given etc. Just as a for instance this board wouldn't exist without you and others giving huge amounts of time and probably a pretty penny too. I do nothing except moan on here in comparison. i do feel though that the situation at BFC is now at a critical point and that the ST should be front and centre in challenging the ownership. I took the free membership option of joining the ST last week and visited the website for the first time. There are some good things on there but nothing that suggests what is currently going on. I'd like to see the ST be more vociferous and public right now. There may be stuff going on behind the scenes but I think a lot of fans feel the need for a rallying point and, at the moment, it seems like there isn't one.
It’s 6pm my time - just to explain why I’m so active. On this one, I would respectfully ask, given that we were one win away against Reading from being the favourites to stay up, if there was a need to focus on a rallying point or let the team and squad focus on what really was the most important goal? It’s been three hours since we were officially relegated so naturally things take time to get moving when it’s volunteers - some with family to focus on, some might have hospital appointments, or some like me might be gallivanting on the other side of the world. What I can say is that in the last month or so we’ve had meetings with the club, with Dan Jarvis, with the EFL, with the FSA, and speak to numerous supporters. Our lines are literally always open for respectful conversation. We’re also trying to organise an AGM for 17th May. I think that’s what Gally means when he says things are happening. We’re not stood still as such. Does every supporter want to see Oakwell marched on with flares and aggression? Maybe. I don’t think so yet. Would they appreciate some comms around what might happen with this Summer and where the Trust stands on the situation? Definitely. But that takes time and doesn’t happen overnight. Otherwise you’ve got a pointless stance with no end goal in mind - you can’t just blindly lead people down a path that makes things worse so you need to do your background checks and be sure what you’re communicating is right. I think we saw the opposite of that in January.
We definitely saw the opposite in January. An utter s**t show. An embarrassment. But that shouldn't be a reason to stop something real happening now.
Well that's encouraging Loko. I think that people need reassurance that things are being done and, as much as is reasonably possible, what those things are. I was never a fan of the facebook group, I want to see things handled with far more professionalism and gravitas than that. My first hope for a sensible group to hold the owners' feet to the fire would be the ST. I'd just like the ST to be a bit more vocal at the minute and really cause those responsible for our problems some public discomfort.
Agree. Got to take learnings. And the end result doesn’t have to be turning all the supporters in to, or asking them to become, ULTRAS.
Fair comment on the vocal aspect. But again, until Millwall away we were still in a relegation fight. I think as a collective the Trust Board thought the focus needed to be on that. Especially with the Summer coming up and an opportunity to either influence change, support change, or look to those within the club to salvage relationships with supporters and run the club in a much, much better way.
