That unit is the smallest of the four in that row. It’s the narrowest and is even narrower at the back because Nando’s nicked part of it. It’s too small for an alchemist or slug and lettuce I’d say. I suspect the preference for the council is for it to be used as a restaurant rather than another bar.
Now the bridge is up and running and the car park is back fully in use are they going to switch the lighting wall back on... It was advertised as a big feature https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/9660/new-market-gate-car-park-opens Could go the way of Mandela gardens at this rate
Any news on Black and White? I would have thought that the success of the other bars in the square companies would have been snapping up the space - surprised someone like Alchemist have not moved into one of the spare units.
Finally a new store announcement after what seems an eternity and rumours of closures to other tenants, Trespass have announced they are opening a store in the Glassworks between Flannels and Dolly’s hopefully we may see some more units being taken up soon
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/29756/international-retailer-to-move-into-glass-works The council will also refurbish the outside of the Alhambra centre so it blends in with the Glassworks.
The front of the building is brilliant, it's back in use, well it's open. The space used for the performances is rubbish, we had a look around the day it reopened and nearly everyone there had said the money would have been better spent turning it back into the theatre it was once with the stalls etc before the false floor was put in. I also grew up with the old civic manager, he gave up on it 20 years ago, he moved to London and now works in the West End.
