This refers to the point in the game where Lewis was already playing, but as a winger, and Rodrigues had been long-since substituted. He's clearly admitting that he doesn't view Lewis as a centre-forward, and yet this is the player he was referring to as the free agent 'forward' he was chatting to on Zoom, which begs the questions as to why describe him as such in the first place (i.e. was he aware who he was due to speak to when he made the original comment?) Intended or otherwise, he's managed to throw in another hand-grenade comment regarding his views on the transfer window recruitment. It's hard to avoid them when he's being quizzed by journalists on team selections/substitutions, and this one comes from him being honest about the in-game situation. He's only confirming what most supporters have already figured out, but it's quite startling to see a Head Coach actually utter the words highlighted in bold font.
In a previous interview he also said that it was a player identified by the recruitment team. As we all know. Panic signing to cover up a very poor window.
I keep being told that every Barnsley Head Coach has a big say in recruitment but, equally, I don't believe Darrell ever uttered the words "get me Clément Rodrigues" and then slammed the Mladen batphone down. Anyway, those quotes sound like a dead man walking. He's either gone in 3 weeks or at the end of the season but I think he's gone.
Regardless of whether or not Dyer is ready or not, it was disgraceful that he didn’t bring him on when we hadn’t a striker on the field and 2-0 down at Stockport…this is when I switched my opinion on the manager who i now believe is not good enough!
Begs the question why cosgrove and Dallas etc. Were allowed out on loan. Surely DC has a say in that decision, especially with cosgrove as he was always part of the match day squads. Not saying he was a world beater, but was an option.
While it's true, he's not helping himself, though I do wonder if he knows the sack is imminent. Parekh strikes me as pretty ruthless regardless of his shortcomings, so if he falls well short of 6th, I think it's only a matter of time as to when he's offloaded.
Well we did start forward on the field in Humphrys. So in reality we didn't have a forward on the field from the off.
Said it in another post wouldn't surprise me if in his contract there's a clause if play offs aren't achieved then it's over for Darrell and his baseball cap.
Obviously, but we also knew that both were out for several weeks when the transfer window was open and didn't try to fill the gap, and instead actually allowed several players with first team experience in that position to go out on loan. Ancient history perhaps, but the Head Coach now calling it out in interviews is the eye-opening part of this. Very Keith Hill-esque.
I know, but he can't be then moaning we have no options when the main sub option has been allowed to leave
I nearly posted that it reminded me a little of Hill and the end of his tenure. I randomly got called out of the blue by Don Rowing who was in the process of trying to sign Tudgay and Greening and was very open about giving the coach enough rope to hang himself. All the more bizarre as that had nothing to do with why he'd called me.
I disagree After Clarke had given that interview, Mladen gave an interview with the club that was uploaded to YouTube in which he stated the transfer window is now shut, we know which players we are working with for the rest of the season, that's it, we're done. The subtext of that to me was "I don't care who you're talking to Clarke, you're not having them." I commented about it at the time https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/c...ims-and-objectives.335550/page-3#post-3413910
