Different article from Doug, and not one that he's linked to yet on Twitter, but it's on the Chronicle BFC page. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...self-we-can-turn-the-corner-very-very-quickly Edit: Now linked by Doug with reference to the quote. https://x.com/dougokane88/status/1892557963249824201
And to be fair if Cosgrove and dallas were let go behind his back or against his knowledge, I'm sure Darrell would have made it public news.
And yet we brought in a free agent player just after that, so the comment that "we're done" wasn't accurate.
Agreed, nothing is accurate. Which is even more reason to suspect it wasn't necessarily the player Clarke was looking at isn't it? Lewis might be the player Clarke was speaking to, I can't prove it wasn't, but I don't think it was. I think he got told no and Mladen went out to get someone else. Clarke knew we didn't have any forwards, I think if he's taking to anyone he's talking to a forward, he wants to do well and keep his job, but someone above went out and got him another winger.
So what's going to happen after three transfer windows.Absolutely fukc all,the quality of incomings will be exactly the same. The level of incompetence is staggering.
I find that other quote of DC's very interesting. "If the fans can be patient with myself we can turn this around very very quickly" How, Darrell?
So basically we cannot trust or believe what Sormaz and/or Clarke are telling us. Either one or the other or both are spouting untruths.
In fairness, he can't really say anything different to that really. If he didn't believe (or at least publicly express such a belief) that he can improve things then he's essentially admitting that he's in the wrong job. In terms of patience, he has probably benefitted from the transfer window being so poor, as it has deflected focus elsewhere, and I can't imagine that there are many supporters out there who believe that he's been given the best available recruits for him to do his job. However, that doesn't absolve him of responsibility for his own actions, and the questions regarding capability are starting to resurface again, and with justification, following the Stockport and Huddersfield games.
I dont think we have anything to play for now. Unless we go on a 6 game winning streak. The only thing we are playing for is Clarkes job really. Id use the time now to give a couple of young ones a go. Dyer cant do any worse than some. Give the lad a good half hour a game. You never know he might be hingry enough to get in the box and chip in with a few goals.
I wish I cared enough to have an opinion but all week I haven’t had the enthusiasm to bother. It all feels so pointless. I’m not even listening to the pressers anymore because they’ve only annoyed me recently. I’ll watch the match and go in blind. Hopefully it’s the first of a 15 game winning streak.
I think the word 'forward' is sometimes used generically to describe any of the old fashioned front 5 positions (the old no.s 7,8,9,10, and 11), that's wingers, inside forwards and centre forward.
I have felt the same all week, although it got worse when I read another post and realized it was another 4:15 PST start for me. At least I'll be able to have the AUS ENG cricket on in the background.
Has anyone at the club referred to Lewis as a 'centre' forward? Genuine question as I've only seen it referenced on here. Anything I've seen from the club merely refers to him as a forward. Though I've not been looking too hard.
It's feeling like his days are up. Can't help but feel like the season with Wilson & Johnson ten years ago. A manager not working particularly well with the 'new' system we'd put in place. Here's what I think happens - we get rid of Clarke in the next four weeks. Hourihane appointed. Maybe an experienced ex Red in as his assistant. We win a couple. It feels a bit different. We launch early bird. We go again.
We lose Saturday he's gone. But I said that after Orient too. I think its gonna get worse before they pull the trigger as deep down they don't want to, but they know they need to.
Yeah and it was exactly the same with Dallas. Baffling weird decisions that really do limit our striking options, and we didn't have many to start with. I'm wondering though if he and Cosgrove, both couldn't wait to get out of here. And is that the best we can do, putting those new players up front for a bit. Because they have also played up front before sometimes, previously.
