It's possible you could find cheaper, probable even However you'd have to look into it further. A quick Google search won't give you the full cost. What about mounting structure, installation and maintenance for example. I can believe the 120k figure. We spend that much on chuffin software licenses. It's a dear do these days. They don't come cheap. They come expensive.
We will have, as of tomorrow. I'm not too bothered about a score board as such, but it'd be nice just to have some indication of the time. Could do with two clocks in the corners (like Newcastle have for example).
The price quoted was from a couple of seasons ago, I believe. It was for large HD video screen that can also be used as a revenue stream for the club by selling advertisements and sponsorships. It also included the price for fitting etc and may or may not have included an upgrade to the stadium PA as theres not a lot of point having an all singing and dancing video screen with poor audio. It wasn't for a simple replacement for what we have. I would imagine given the way the price of this sort of technology goes it would be cheaper now for an equivalent system.
Helloo people . Been a loong while since I've posted on here I quoted an 8*4 ish 16mm pitch HD LED screen for another club , last season . The kit itself was about £ 60k . New type led panels are pretty lightweight , so don't need lots of supporting structure , A lower resolution would be even cheaper. I would even do a discount for the reds !! £ 120k would be quite an expensive setup. We do sound as well . Great result yesterday . COYR Fluff
Has REDS thought that a scoreboard could (and maybe should) be paid for by a mainstream sponsor, on say a 3-5 year lease scheme? At the end of the day, this is something that is looked at continually through the game so is the main focal point of advertising. One of the biggest problems for Barnsley is that we genuinely have no "big business" that has it's base here. Maybe we should be approaching the likes of Premier Foods (who own the "old" Lyons Bakery" and are based in Barnsley).............they have very strong well-known brands. Then again, maybe BFC are not big enough to attract this type of sponsor. Aim high?
The system i quoted on was tied into sponsorship and revenue streams using interactive mobile phone technology. Half time competitions , spot the ball etc using texting as a money maker. The system used 4 screens in total and a pitch perimeter led screen , for advertising revenue . It's important the sound system works well with this type of setup. A good chunk of the funding was to be from energy savings made by installing LED lighting throughout the stadium. Still a work in progress.
May I suggest you contact Don Rowing about this? He and the club may appreciate a chat and discussing some clearer figures etc? Go through thereds@barnsleyfc.co.uk Allen

I'm puzzled as to why this came up for discussion. I assume that the scoreboard is part of the assets of Oakwell which as far as I understand is a separate entity from Barnsley Football Club. Stadium improvements are surely the responsibility of the Trust that owns Oakwell Stadium. Is Don Rowing a spokesman on their behalf?
could do wi a new sound system n all, can't hear **** all in Oakwell. you can get it all done for less than 100k, i'm sure of that...
