I'd forgot about that - shabby principle imho. Leicester's recent antics notwithstanding. Match boycott Mr Bloore ?
Shift the away fans to the West Stand upper tier and charge the same as East Stand Upper tier. That's what Bates has done at Bellend road.
down to one thing - the "charge the same to away fans principle". So they ask Barnsley fans to piss about with membership cards, putting god knows how many off coming at all, in order to screw the away fans and get away with it.
Yeah, I have to agree. However, the club has decided that the numbers of visiting supporters will not be affected by price So, a reduction in price will mean a reduction in revenue. I wonder if they are brave enough to actually test this theory out.
Well the price level at Leeds certainly has an effect on visiting fan numbers as a large number of posters on this very board have openly stated that they will not go to Leeds because of the price. Other away fans will have their own limits for a trip to Barnsley, and £28 is above mine for any away game.
Yeah. Good stuff. I think that there is a perception that travelling fans will pay whatever they are charged.
I would argue that fans are less likely to pay over the odds for an away game then they are for a home game, as to some extent, home games are a habit, and for away games you need to factor in the other costs of the day. A £28 ticket, and half a tank of petrol for a reasonable length return trip makes it more like £70, before food and beer goes on top. And before anyone says you don't have to buy beer and food, for most people, if you had to start working out whether you could afford it on the basis that you won't buy a beer all day and will make your own sarnies 'cos you can't afford a pasty then you are likely to think **** if and not bother at all.
That makes sense. However, I believe most clubs reason there is a hard core of visiting fans that are ripe for exploitation. From what you argue, this may not be true and a rethink is overdue for pricing across the board. As someone earlier in this thread stated, it will result in falling numbers of spectators being charged ever increasing amounts. Incidentally, do we have any idea what proportion of visiting supporters actually travel from their home town? For example, I remember watching a few reds away matches when I lived away from town for a short while.
It's all too complicated, and most casual fans can't be arsed seeing how much it is, what membership entails, how they can buy the tickets, or when etc. I've got a ST and go to every game, but if a mate wanted to come with me to the next game and asked how much it is & could he pay on the gate, I'd have no idea. IMO it should be £20 for local derbies/big games and £15 for the other games, kids £5 flat rate. Pay on the gate. Get it promoted heavily, bums on seats, and people talking about it. Crowds build crowds. The pricing policy (have we got one?) is a shambles at the moment. It needs to be great value for money, simple (idiot proof), and marketed like there's no tomorrow. Indeed, there may not be a tomorrow if we carry on like we are.
Agreed. If someone asked me how much it was to get in to the average Barnsley game I'd have to say "I'm not sure, it's £28 but I think there might be some discount if you join some membership scheme. Don't know how to join or how much to join though. Oh and if you do join you only get the discount if you make a seperate journey to oakwell to buy your tickets. I think. ...oh you're 61? Well I think that's full price, i'm not sure though, some people get OAP rates at 60, some at 65. What? Your son wants to go with you? He's a student? erm I think theres a discount for that too but again i'm not sure. It depends whether hes a 20 year old student or 21 year old student I think. Whats that? Your 4 year old nephew wants to come along as well? If you're related to a player that's fine, if you're not its too dangerous for them I think." In conclusion I haven't a fecking clue how much you can actually get in to oakwell for but the tell tale part is that EVERYONE remembers the £28 headline and that headline is way too much.
I think he was the passenger and stumping up his share of the petrol money. However he forgot to add the £30 pedant tax to his costs.
You are charged £3.00 credit charge on top of ticket. A fortune in diesel if you have to fetch it. A long queue if you pick it up EARLY on match day. Is there any wonder people say stuff it and stop at home
Does anyone Know if we are all talking to one another, OR is the DON or anyone to do with the Club reading these Threads and taking note.
