We did'nt get charged a fiver. They took my debit card details, issued a dupicate ticket and I had to take your season ticket in within 7 days to avoid being charged.

Thats what they do at Fulham

Great system! mate of mine is a Fulham ST holder - really neat card just like a credit card - one time he took his season ticket abroad with him and was going to be away for the match - had planned to let his son have it, phones the club and once they have confirmed who he is and he has the card with him, they cancelled his original and let his son pick up and use the new one - said they do it all the time.

Maybe their ST's are a bit less non transferrable than ours are supposed to be as well.

Not cheap though, large upfront costs.

But could probably save money in the long run. People could keep cards for several years so no need to get books printed. Save on turnstyle operators, could just have 1 steward keeping an eye on several turnstyles at once.

Barnsley FC and technology though. Doesn't seem to be a good mix.
