We should worry for those people. They will be mocked but they clearly need professional help because nobody should want permanent restrictions.

Well, if you want to live in a Central European-style police state (pre-1980s) this could be the way. Keep the proletariat in check at all costs. Meek submission.

    Not for me, thanks.

I struggle to believe that data to be honest.

Masks is the only one I can understand and maybe vaccine for international travel, but the rest I really struggle to believe anybody wants permanently. Makes no sense at all.

Masks permanently? Give over who did they interview. More chance of Alan Shearer starting on Sunday for england than me wearing one of those for the foreseeable.

I think you're massively underestimating the amount of fear that's out there in the wider world due to negative and one sided media reporting. It's driven people to a mentality I never thought I'd see other than on Hollywood films. Some would/could argue exactly as intended.

It does if you've been programmed into a state of abject fear by 15 months of Government propaganda across every available medium. Remember only 30 odd years ago a decent proportion of Europe was cowed into this sort of permanent submission.

Can you see why I think it's dangerous? I'm still scared.

I’ve never seen anybody say they want a curfew permanently. 20% is insane, so insane that it’s frankly barely believable. A curfew makes no sense even in the context of Covid restrictions so I really can’t see why anybody would want it regardless.

It must be people that would have wanted that anyway for whatever reason? (Not that I can think of a reason)

Sample size was 1,025 which I think is about standard. Done on 2-3rd July.

Anyone who wants to keep those sorts of restrictions needs to give their heads a good shek.

Yes, however, it doesn’t change my opinion on whether restrictions were necessary.

I also disagree that this was a logical and inevitable outcome of restrictions. If indeed this is where we end up as a society I will hold the government to task for the result, but it didn’t have to be that way.

I also think that blaming “the media” is a dangerous road to go down. If you start allowing trust in “the media” as an entity to erode, you allow politicians to do whatever they want any nothing can ever be held to account. That’s how Trump got so many apologists. Anything against him was “fake news” and dismissed immediately and without any thought into it.
There are issues with the way certain aspects of the media report and how they work without a doubt, but I’m never going to get to a point where I see “the media” as some sort of bogeyman the same way I see people on Twitter use “MSM” as a dirty term, while lapping up anything served to them by Fox News and GB News, who are self proclaimed “entertainment channels” rather than real news.

I agree with this there is still such fear people feel the need to mask up and walk outdoors, even excersize outdoors with a mask on people so fearful they will cross the road to avoid walking past people. Sadly the figures don't suprise me.

Agreed, but that’s why it’s so important for the media to be demonstrably neutral and challenge decision making. The BBC has been little more than a state broadcaster for the last 18 months and that erodes public trust to the extent that they start talking in the way you describe.

The level of fear that has been induced in some people is frightening.
On the other hand seeing thousands of people on Wembley way last night shows many just want to live.
Following rising cases in the area our work have reintroduced lateral flow tests on site. This time the uptake is incredibly low. Large numbers saying they don't want to isolate for "nothing"
Though it may not be a great view of overall feeling as our work has been open throughout so it's been a different viewpoint. Friends I have who have been work from home the last year and half seem to be a lot more cautious than those I know who have worked as normal throughout.

You have to wonder if that was a loaded survey - see the excellent example in Yes Minister many years ago Sir Humprey explains it quite well

if not then I dispair at a large part of the british public

Regardless of the question in the thread, has to be said that was one of the best programmes on telly. Hasn't aged at all.
