Didn't get into double figures for Test or ODI appearances. But averaged over 40 in both. I'd back him to improve England's top 6 now.
Bumble was to cricket what Jeff Stelling is(soon to be was) to Soccer Saturday. A familiar face/voice that almost makes you feel like you know them personally. Bumble seriously knows his stuff too, after doing virtually every job in cricket at the top level(or very close to it). He could go from talking about the ground, to what it's like in the middle, the process the umpires go through when making a decision and on to the coaching and team selection side of things with ease(usually with multiple interludes about his allotment, local pub, favorite bands from his youth and beyond and other usually funny stuff). I don't think there will ever be anyone else with that knowledge of so many aspects of the sport, and it's a shame. Enjoy your retirement, Bumble. You'll be missed lad...
Be reyt, his Test average was skewed by the 200 odd not out on a wicket and against an Indian attack that I'd fancy my chances on. He'd certainly improve our top six right now, but again, I'd fancy my chances of doing that against the current crock of crap.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...le-Lloyds-exit-Sky-Sports-broadcast-duty.html Gower has put it superbly. If it wasn't for the Rafiq situation he clearly wouldn't be leaving the channel.
No he hasn't put it superbly. It's an awful interview. He's clearly implying that Bumble has been the victim of cancel culture taking words that were said in a different age out of context. The relevant messages were sent in October 2020. He's also saying there's a difference between being racist in public and in private - suggesting that if you are racist it's fine so long as it's not directly to someone's face. That's a disgusting attitude and part of the reason cricket finds itself in this mess is the old boys merrily sneering at ethnic minorities between themselves. Also the opening line - ‘I have never seen Bumble as racist,’ he says, ‘or any of the other sins that are prohibited nowadays.’ Trivialising the issue off the bat with dismissive language. As usual your assessment is absolutely bang wrong.
You have your view mate and others have theirs, but don’t mean your right, I am not going to go into a deep debate on this subject but theres no doubt that Bumble would still be in a job if not for the comments mentioned. In my eyes Bumble top man and a shame he been forced out.....Merry Christmas!
Of course he’s still be in a job! For goodness sake you’ve just said “he’d still be in a job if he didn’t say something racist” how many more times will it take to get through.
Ok, I'll have my two pennorth as someone who is involved with a predominantly Asian dominated club. Lloyd is right, Asian players don't spend much over the bar. We don't have one but there's a pub directly across the road so, same difference. It's not really surprising though is it? One or two drink but the vast majority don't as it's against their religion. If you have a clubhouse/bar maybe don't encourage a drinking culture and, instead, create an environment where they feel nore comfortable. As for paying subs...I don't think that's a racial or cultural trait as far as I'm aware. I've seen far worse comments than Lloyd's but they are a sad reflection of the "lads" booze culture that is so pathetic. The Asian lads love their cricket, they, understandably, don't see the need to get themselves paralytic in the bar afterwards.
Just to put you right mate.......not seen the word racist in my message, so get facts straight next time....”how many more times for goodness sake?
