…the limping Wilderbeast astray of the pack.” I detect a certain lack of confidence about Setdi on Owlstalk...
First goal is crucial. As is not conceding in the first 15 minutes. Don't give them a glimmer of hope and watch the confidence completely drain from them right in front of our eyes. Pick the best XI to start the game. All the 'impact' players on from the first minute.
I'm hoping we don't get another limp performance like we did against Millwall, Birmingham and Derby. We seem to be playing better away from home.
Have you seen how many points they've dropped after taking the lead. Obviously I'd like another clean sheet but if and when they score won't impact on us getting goals . Can't wait for tomorrow!
They said exactly the same on the back of 7 straight defeats when they came to Oakwell and beat us in 2012.
I don't think those performances were limp as such. It takes two to tango as they say, and only Millwall came with any plan to play football out of those three - and they didn't play much but it was by far the best game out of the three. Birmingham were a dreaful, dreadful side.
Good thing about Wednesday is that. despite being in the relegation zone they still fancy themselves as good footballers and are happy to play it out from the back. Mmmmm, antelopes.
We don't give teams enough time to let them go through the motions though. The key to putting us under pressure is to attack us at pace before we've had chance to settle and set. Bournemouth were doing this in the first half and at Oakwell. We leave space behind the full backs but teams haven't been good enough to exploit it and just resort to thinking that going long beats the press. That's kind of true, but it needs to be a smart long ball. The high ones allow Sibbick/Madds to pull wide and win the header or be right behind the opposition when they bring the ball down, but if they play it in to the space behind and turn our defenders round we don't look as comfortable. Almost every time we've looked like conceding it's come from getting behind our full backs and pulling the CBs wide.
I think it's the recent good run has got me second guessing things. It seems perverse but it's like I'm waiting for that bad performance or result but hoping it's not the next game. I hope that feeling lasts until the end of the season.
I don’t think he’ll start with Morris. My thinking is, VI recognises his skill and vital importance to the team. He bears in mind Morris’ injury record, and he also knows that Dike could well be on his way back to Uncle Sam before our season ends. In other words, VI’s wrapping Morris in cotton wool so he’s still fit at the end of our season. (Notice how I avoided the word ‘playoffs’)
I think you’ve got a point there. I noticed the Wycombe keepers kicks from the box were very low trajectory, so obviously, travelling a shorter distance than a high ball.
Agreed - we need to start fast - Styles in for Mowat and Williams for Styles - maybe big Mozza up front - get into them early, score and their heads will drop good style - they play slow motion football and will not be able to live with our pace - if we score early we will sense blood and like hyenas tear the wounded prey limb from limb - counting down the hours to this one tick tock tick tock - the clock is ticking down for Wednesday, a team with no plan, no strategy, no decent players and no hope left after Saturday - COYR
Also both Bournemouth and Wycombe had their keepers release the ball early either with a low kick or throwing it out wide. Solanke especially caused us nightmares the first half but it was all from chasing down balls played low and fast behind Brittain and far enough away from Sibbick.
To be fair to the Weds contributors they not only concede that their team is poor but that ours is good, along with the rest of our setup. Despite the natural local rivalry it is good to see that many of them want us to go up, if only to show to Chansiri how a "club like Barnsley" can do it whereas their own jugganaut can't. A good read.
