For me Collins pretty much admitted this on Monday night. His defence is new and not got the right mix he wants - which is why Williams has to play in it (to which he’s having to learn bits too). Maybe this will be corrected in January, but that’s not easy to do. I also think that’s why Shepherd hasn’t featured much - too many issues for him to be thrown in and put under pressure. Deep down, I also think it affects the team’s tactics as well - Collins doesn’t fully trust his defence yet, so sometimes does play it safe, which might PARTLY explain the non-attacking stuff we see at times. Starting a new season with a new back line and keeper would take any team 6 months to settle, and that’s if the recruitment was right first time. Again, Collins admitted that on Monday night. We’ve gone from a £10m+ Championship defence and keeper, to a new L1/L2 replacement. It perhaps highlights again in many ways, that Duff’s task last season was far easier (better squad). But in fact, Collins is 1 point better off this season so far - so performances apart, he’s doing something right.
