    RE: My experience is its financial

    I'm sure it is financial.

    From a security point of view, if there are 10000 Pakistani student visas each year, then our government appears to be reaping what it sows. It might seem lucrative in terms of education fees paid by foreigners, but if we have to pay for the state to keep an eye on them, then the profit margins shrink rapidly.

    Given that Pakistan appears to account for 75% of the trouble for the boys in blue, it seems logical to stamp down on them.

    Just like certain aspects of our recent immigration policy.

    We import trouble and have the taxpayer pay for it.

    Thanks for bringing that up Bung.

    </p>

    When I used to do shedloads of T shirts I dealt direct with FOL and the shirts came from Ireland. The handful that I now spend &quot;much of my time trying to knock out on here&quot;( lol )is done mostly as a non-profit-making hobby. I've just had a look and the labels say they're made in El Salvador so, concerned by the article you dug up I went in search of further evidence. I found lots of anecdotal reference to sweatshops but nothing that goes any further than this from your article -</p>

    However, a report published by London-based activist group No Sweat includes photos of shirt labels smuggled out by Honduras sweatshop workers. The photos show labels from Fruit of the Loom as well as Hanes, Nike, Adidas and Gildan.</p>...so I went to No Sweat's site. Not only could I find no reference to Fruit of the Loom <font size="2"><font size="2">

    http://www.nosweat.org.uk/category/companies-and-brands</p>

    ...but also none to Honduras or El Salvador</p></font><font size="2">

    http://www.nosweat.org.uk/category/countries</p>

    I found a couple of interesting snippets in FOL's favour here but, to be honest, they're as reliable as the one you found.</p></font><font size="2">

    http://divisionoflabour.com/archives/001388.php</p>

    http://www.pier32.co.uk/blog/2008/03/ethical-brand-profile-fruit-of-loom.html</p>

    I'm sure you, a champion of fairness, will agree there's really nothing for us to go on but if you want to put in a bit more graft and you can come up with something of substance I'll stop using FOL products forthwith.

    RE: Re. the slave labour...

    It is apparently alright for companies allied to these shores to continue to exploit overseas labour, as the dear old Empire itself allowed and indeed encouraged, but Allah forbid if the clever ones come over here and learn how to do it themselves. No mate, it isn't. Don't try to put words in my mouth.

    But don't respond to Windy posts in all haste too often - he throws open a loaded question or two, and then embarks upon a program of belittlement if you don't get his predetermined answer. I take it you're referring to my response to Budmustang's answer. If you'd try to digest before reacting you'd see he in no way supports what I was getting at and, if anything, shoots me down. It's just a very good answer, intelligent and informed. And if you can't handle your posts being answered then I suggest you don't post them. By running away and bleating elsewhere like this you belittle yourself.

    RE: Re. the slave labour...

    You seem to have your back up over this, and I can't for the life of me work out why. Which companies exactly do you think make a profit out of costs falling overseas due to unacceptable working conditions? Are you even aware China exists?

    All of them? Including the British ones? Yeah, that's what I think as well. You seem to thinkI approve of British companies using overseas labour. How did you come to that conclusion?

    How many companies do you personally boycott as a statement against these 'slave labour conditions'? At a time whenI was doing a lot of volume in the garment trade I stopped buying from Pakistanis and have never dealt with them since. I went to a factory about 5pm and there were school kids at the machines so I did likewise at a handful of others and found the same. I know you and your type on this board will probably start swinging your handbags about but there it is. You can't alter the truth just because you don't like it.</p>

    Oh and if Bungle can come up with any half-hard evidence that FOL are abusing workers I'll stop using them as well. Can't say fairer than that can I?</p>

    Are there two people using this log-in?

    </p>

    It would be interesting to see how the figures stack up. The cost of policing against subsidising the uni's.</p>

    Of course if we brought in the cost of enablingother countries to undercutour exportsthen there's only one answer.</p>

    They're Jerzees garments Bungle, not FOL.

    </p>

    I don't use Jerzees. </p>

    And you're going to have to do a bit better than unsupported, anonymous hearsay labelled as &quot;credible reports&quot; on an activist website.</p>

    Havea bit oflunch and get back down to it. Let's see what you can come up with by tea-time.</p>

    Russell Athletic is a fully owned subsidiary of Fruit of the Loom.

    And you chose that particular website, not me!</p>

    So don't try to be clever eh? (doh) </p>

    Stop trying to wriggle Low-Life!

    Jerzees is fully owned by Fruit of the Loom. Jerzees is just another brand in the Fruit of the Loom clothing empire. Fruit of the Loom is closing the Jerzees factory because it has tried to organise a union. </p>

    You seem to confuse things by thinking Fruit of the Loom is a just a brand name, it's a massive clothing empire controlled by Warren Buffet. No amount of your wriggling can change that.</p>

    It would seem all the workers united camraderie of the miners strike is long past in your case! </p>

    LOL!

    </p>

    All that research, you still know **** all about it and now you're gibbering on about something else entirely.</p>

    Anyone normal would be feeling a bit foolish by now but I actually believe you talk yourself into believing your twisted truths.</p>

    Try to concentrate - ready? - If you can find a scrap of <font color="#ff0000">substantial evidence</font> that <font color="#ff0000">Fruit of the Loom t shirts</font> are &quot;<font color="#ff0000">sweatshop made&quot;</font> (remember?) I'll happily stop using them. The only outcome will be that the BBS members who ask me for shirts will have to pay a little more but it'll still be a fraction of what they'd pay anywhere else so, sorry to disappoint you,you wouldn't be spoiling anything for anyone and you certainly wouldn't be getting one over on me.</p>

    You've failed to prove it but I don't care if you do. There's no prize for you at the end of all this effort and embarrassment Bungle. Get a life you silly little man.</p>

    Just what we've come to expect from you Low-Life.

    You replace any semblance of argument with abuse.</p>

    Think. You used to get T-shirts from Ireland. They closed that factory and moved it to Morocco. Why do you think they did that? Are the Moroccan factory workers allowed to organise their labour? I wonder!</p>

    Anyway, try to think about that for a while.Have a nice day!</p>

    That does wonders for your credibility that does
