    Agreed about Steve Howard

but would he come with Leicester at the top of div1 ? The others, I don't know them but shouldn't we be looking for a proven championship target man ?

Go on then bfcbub who should we be signing?

When you heard of Cureton was he not right? Seems to me to sound like a fair enough replacement for Hume.

Rigters? Sounds alright in principle when you hear of his international credentials.

Macken? Everybody wanted him to be signed up not so long ago.

And where should the funds come from to pay for a striker of impeachable quality? Are you paying for him?

I'm sure he'd like to sign a top goal scorer

unfortunately clubs that are a far more attractive proposition and also who can afford to pay more sign them

Am i paid a wage as a scout, errrr no. Is it his job to find these players - YES. To have no one in by now is ridiculous and its costing us points. He will pay for this with his job if we end up bottom 4/5 again this season.

The problem with that approach, though, David

Is that whoever is reasonablysuggested, the stock reply will be "We can't afford him". It's exactly the same when debating potential replacements for Simon Davey. It's a 'Win, win' situation for the ones setting the debate. The fact that the only person who knows who we can or can't afford is Patrick Cryneseems to get conveniently ignored. No one on here knows what Mr Cryne isprepared to pay, so how can anyone claim a reasonably suggested name is outside our price range?

I think they would want £1m for Steve Howard and he would be on top whack wages

and he's not really that good.

he's not the answer for me.

I think you are right with regard to where we might finish.

But it is nigh on impossible, without spending cash that we have no right to expect to be at our disposal, to expect that someone such as e.g Steve Howard is going to improve things.

Although I've always quite rated him.

he said he needed two strikers

he then shipped out mostto so may I ask who the other target was?

Should have had several players scouted in december ready to make bids on first of january not made a bid for one player and then run around panicking because you didn't think far enough ahead.

It's not only the cash though

it's 'why go to Barnsley for a relegation struggle when I can go to a side pushing for promotion'

    3 Strikers?

Why? One of our best is coming back from injury in a few weeks (hopefully), and the "normal" formation is 4-4-2. Can't use 4 strikers in a game. Well... Not effectively...

It might be more than that...

Can we be sure that it's the club that they don't want to come to. Maybe its the Manager that doesn't inspire them.

I can't see Hume playing again. I hope I'm wrong, but just can't see it.

    RE: 3 Strikers?

We need 3 strikers, 2 to start and 1 to come on if we need a goal. When Hume returns then we will have 4 so we can have 2 on the bench, id take 2 strikers to be signed now and a further one in the summer when KO, Macken and Rigyrts have gone.

    The responsibility for that

Rests with Patrick Cryne & Simon Davey. They're the ones who have to sell the club as a potentially attractive employer, who's future is rosey and involves Barnsley being, at the very least, established in the upper reaches of the Championship, rather than the odd flirtation we've managed since promotion. This won't be easy, it fact it'll be extremely difficult. However, the alternative is simply existing in this division and making the numbers up, with very little chance of makingprogress. Some fans are quite happy with that scenario and appear to claim that is the maximum the club can possibly hope to achieve. I don't and, having read & listened to Mr Cryne's ambitions for the club, I don't think that mirrors Patrick's vision, either.
