It all has to be sustainable.

Mentions SCMP (salary cap management protocol).

We're "fairly close to that already".

That's another reason "we have to be careful, have to recruit the right players."

Ideally, we'd retain our under contract players. The players here, we expect to be here. But you never know.

Keeps reiterating the importance of SCMP, and adhering to it.

    But we should be excited.

"there might not be household names"

But he's after hunger, desire, enthusiasm. Believes the team will be like a breath of fresh air.

Some hard work ahead of us.

    Bring it.

Gone back to making it clear (in my opinion) that lots of kids will be given chances from this season onwards.

We can't ignore it any longer. They have to be given a chance, no blockages ahead of them.

    And that's a wrap. :)

Enjoyable interview. Will have brought a few folk off here down to Earth. Can't envisage us signing lots of players, and doubt there'll be a 'name' player either. The kids will get opportunities, and we're already close to our wage limit. Which despite his comments about 'ideally' retaining our 'star' players, says to me that the likes of COG, Cranie, Steele and Jennings may well ALL be out the door should we receive offers suitable. And again in my opinion, I think any fees received for them will be on the low side, just in an effort to get their wages off the bill.

    All conjecture though.

But I do like the cut of his jib.

I've said for years I wanted us to build a squad containing our standout youth talent, a squad of players who'd stick it out and show loyalty until such a time that it's impossible (Butterfield, Stones). And we've my favourite manager in charge.

    Key words?

Patience. Enthusiasm. Dynamism. Loyalty. Patience. Judgement. PATIENCE.

The problem with building a team for the long term these days is that good players hold most of the cards. They negotiate buy out clauses in their contracts, and even when they have not done this, they know that freedom of contract allows them to walk away for free at the end of their contract so the club is forced to cash in on their transfer value when there is still a year left on the contract term. If that is not enough, as we know, certain players are not against using the threat of refusing to play in order to engineer a move. In the circumstances described, it will be very difficult to do what Danny describes.

Thanks very much for your excellent account of what was said though.

Good interview but I wish he'd stop droning on about why he didn't play Bobby Hassell and offer him a contract

we cant build a team around young uns tho cos 20-30 good games for us and we'll sell to the first club waving the reddies.

Maybe, but the thing is if you're bringing through young players you're not spending transfers, wages, agent fees etc. You then should have more money to play with and less need to sell.

If with so few players at the club we are already close to our salary cap that's very worrying. Looks like our four main players could all be on their way.

Bobby Hassell? Isn't that that ginger bloke who used to clean the toilet? Not sure why he'd mention him, but disappointed if he's been released, a mucky toilet isn't fun!
