1967 dont know when and dont know who against sometime in 1967, Spud was playing at right back and got booked for handball I was in the West stand pretty much on my own so decided to sit on the wall next to the running track, a policeman walked halfway around the ground to tell me to get back inside the wall I remember being impressed watching the crowd move from one end of the (then) Brewery stand to the other depending upon which way we were kicking
1987-88, 2-1 vs Plymouth Roger Wylde got both, we went top of the league that day. Little did my nine year old head know, we wouldn't be back there for a VERY long time!
God , have we seen some crap ? Kids today , eh ? They don't know the meaning of the words '**** player' !!!
too true mate mine was 1974ish against Halifax at home. We lost 1-0. Southport, Rochdale, Chester away games ahhhh those were the days !!!!
I can't tell you the date, but I do recall Mick Channon was playing for the opposition. I had a crush on him at the time (doh)
RE: December 1966 Fa cup tie against Port Vale.We drew 1-1 equalising in the last minute with the newly signed Barrie Thomas scoring. We won the replay 3-1 before losing at Cardiff in the 3rd round. Team that day as I remember.Ray wood,Bob Parker.Eric Winstanley,Pat Howard,Eric Brookes,Bob Earnshaw, John Bettney,Dick Hewitt,George Hamstead,Barrie Thomas and Johnny Evens.
74/75 Barnsley 2, Bradford City 2........ Barnsley were losing 2-0 when Mick Butler came on as sub and scored two goals in the second half. I think that was the season that the News Of The World carried an article on Butler asking 'is this the six million dollar man?'. He'd suffered two broken legs that season and he's scored two hat tricks in consecutive games in an amzing haul of 19 goals. I was gutted when we sold him to Huddersfield!
never 1979 was it, thought it was earlier if it was the same game, Allan Clarke brought a load of his mates, wasnt David Johnston (everton) still in the England team at the time, Channon was there and scored an outrageous goal from about 40 yards, finished up something like 7-5 to us
I think you're right about Brian Joicey But I honestly can't remember the opposition , so bow to your superior memory Dave .
Yep It was the arrival of Allan Clarke that was key to me deciding to dedicate numerous Saturday afternoons & Tuesday nights to following The Reds.
kinell... I bow to your memory being in better nick than mine it was a cracking night and I remember thinking that all football matches should be like that I suppose they were for a time because that was the start of the Clark/Hunter/Clarke time of which I have fond memories (until the arrival of Kenny Burns)
RE: 74/75 Barnsley 2, Bradford City 2........ I think it was 73/74. That was my first ever Reds game!! Sharp as a tack round the penalty box was our Micky.
