Agree. Happy with the rest of the main components of the squad - but we've an awful lot of goals that haven't been replaced.
3 players to come in, golie, midfielder, striker, from what i've been reading these are the positions a large proportion of fans would like to see coming through the door.
Problem being it’s likely knowing Barnsley that two of them players come into the club on deadline day five games into the season
I hope Marsh starts if we don't bring anyone in by Friday, (which I don't think we will). We can't start with Watters, we're on sky.
Why does Watters get so much 5hite, he's a squad player an one of our own, support the Player, support the Team, support the Club. C,O,Y,R,
The signings we have made all look excellent is rather wait 4 more weeks and make 7 excellent signings than mediocre ones for the start of the season. it also gives the likes a Jalo , Watters and Cosgrove the opportunity to stake a place. would have preferred a first choice keeper to have been signed by now but ….see above. COYR
Striker and keeper short for me..fill those 2 with quality like Gent and Craig and were good to go. Pines will be like a new signing as will Lofthouse..
It's concerning our squad isn't the finished article for Friday night. We've been slow at helping Clarke get players in. When we do finally get guys in we could be playing catch up in the league and have to wait for them to get up to speed and used to our style of play.
In fairness, I agree we need at the very least 3 additions, with no outgoings (well we're looking a bit heavy at RWB currently). Adam Oxley said on radio Dee dar yesterday "Darrel Clarke still wanting a good 3, 4, 5 signings in". Not sure if there's any truth in that, however he does get to speak to Clarke and will be privy to some level of information not available to most of us.
I'd like to go into Friday thinking we'll beat Mansfield and new signings or not I think we will. It was only after the Bolton second leg we were saying major surgery wasn't needed and the contract rebels that derailed our "promotion" needed to go. That's happened...everyone of those players still left or brought in wants to play for Barnsley F.C. If they don't that's what we pay Darrell Clarke for. As @Winker says get behind em'.
I just don't know where in a very bloated squad mate. I could understand a goalkeeper (though I'm surprised we brought in Smith with how highly rated Ravenhill & Flavell are, unless we get rid off Killip and Smith is second fiddle?) and a striker, but even with another striker we've got Marsh, Watters, Jalo, Cosgrove, so I think if we do get another one on top of a new one, one or more of those need to be offloaded. I think we have a very bloated squad. I imagine if he's saying we need X amount, he's sure some will be moving on. Another 5 on top of this current lot without anyone leaving seems excessive, but the more the merrier for me as long as they're capable..!
Always said judge em properly after a few weeks into the season. None of us know how the coach will be approaching games and if he's capable of improving players. I suspect the entire team will be a better unit than under Collins. Watters for example may be much better. But, in any case, no need to panic or criticise yet. Window still open and there's time for movement in and out. Be as patient as a saint, as chilled as a good lager and as relaxed as a morphine addict. For now....
Spot on mate. (I actually thought the team that ended the Derby friendly was better than the team that started it). As it looked more of a team .
That won't happen, we took the option to extend Killip's contract into this season in June (which I was surprised about). So there'd be no sense in selling him now, you're not going to get anything for him. Yeah I understand where you're coming from, 6 is too many, you're right. If I was planning this summer. I'd have been tempted t use Jalo as a number 10 this season (I think he'll get bullied up front in this league I think) and I'd have released Marsh, didn't agree with extending his deal, I just don't think he's got the physical attributes required or his technical and reading of the game is good enough to make up for it. Which in theory would have left us with 2 new strikers, Watters and Cosgrove. Jalo as an understudy to Phillips, whilst also providing cover upfront if injuries occur. Another goalie is a must for me, loan Smith out. I'd like a LWB and to try move styles on. If we can't then I guess he's the back up there. And if we aren't planning to use Jalo as a number 10, we might be looking at the Mansfield lad as he can operate up top or just in behind. It just gives you options. Also if I was being really picky and wanting a cherry on top, I think we need another left footed centre back to push Earl and move McCarthy plus Lopata on, as they're not good enough imo.
He's a right winger that should be cutting inside on his left in a 433/4231 a la Mo Salah. We don't play that, although we might at points. I know he's played upfront in the youth teams but I actually don't think he has the required attributes to play upfront for a league 1 side. I'm not saying he'll do badly, I just believe his attributes lend themselves more to being a number 10 than a striker in our system. In a Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliott type way. His best attributes are agility, dribbling, 5 yard pace and shooting from outside the box. Well imo anyways. I believe those things lend themselves to playing off a striker, I think he'd be ideal picking the ball up and running at the defence, rather than back to goal. He should be more than capable of that. But what do I know, I just don't see us getting the best out of him playing up against men twice as big and heavy as him. Just my opinion, he's only a young kid, not like he's never played there in a 20 year career.
