I think this is a myth to be honest. Our local journalists, who do a great job as it feels we get more news about our club now than ever before, have complete access to Dane. He's always quoted on topics. I think Whitey came on and compared how many interviews/statements Dane has done vs. GG and it was almost double.

He's also the only CEO to do a one hour, unedited, no holds barred Q&A where not a single question was rejected ahead of the call. He answered everything from 'what were the director payments in the accounts' to 'is it true that Conway expenses his flights in for Barnsley games'. That was only three months ago.

Why do I think people view him differently? I'm not sure. But the view of the owners at the top of the tree doesn't help and Dane gets lumped in with them too often, combined with some of the turmoil. He also hasn't had the benefit of some big PR stories to put his name to, and when he has us as supporters haven't got excited by it like we did with GG. I mean let's not pretend that it was GG coming up with the PR we saw a few years ago - that was the amazing people at the club putting something in front of him to put his name to.

I think if Dane was working for Patrick he'd be well thought of.

One additional point to note. All of them achieved their immediate goal after taking up the role so had achieved 'success' in it by any reasonable standard. Hecky got us promoted, Stendel got us promoted, Struber avoided relegation.

In each case, the disillusion has set in when they've expected assistance in making the next step up the rung, which is not being relegation fodder in the Championship. Fundamentally, that's where the relationship always seems to break down.

We've been lucky to an extent in that we've found coaches who've actually achieved something in the role to begin with. It's only a matter of time before we hit on another Morais and don't even get that, and they'll ultimately be sacked.

The end result will be the same in either case. We'll continue to churn head coaches at the rate of at least 1 per season.

Ainsworth isn't a Wycombe fan but he obviously understands the constraints and I doubt he's moaning because he hasn't got his top targets or the quality he thinks they need. They could easily get a record low points total this year.

Football is a funny game. There's zero loyalty anywhere other than supporters and the club.

True. Wycombe and Ainsworth are enjoying a free hit. Bit worried for when we play them though because they are good at shithousery that might not work against the bigger championship teams but could with us.

Where was this released? Club website? I've not watched it, and am genuinely surprised to have missed it. I'd like to figure out why.

I think he's trying to do a good job in difficult circumstances, but he's prone to an absolute howler, like the Ludewig statement (or at least being the person blamed for it as the only public face available at that level).

One problem is that he fundamentally lacks the gravitas of a CEO in the way that GG did. He comes across as someone who only acts, in terms of public statements, when the ownership allow him to do so whereas GG seemed very much more like the person making the day to day decisions at a general management level. This might not actually be the case, but it's definitely the perception I have.

GG also did some very astute things to gain positive publicity, even if that wasn't the primary purpose of his actions. The fan letter regarding mental health (which only became public because the recipient shared it) was the obvious example. I could never seen Dane doing something meaningful and personal like that, based on my relative perception of the two men, but also the fact that I don't see the club being close enough to it's support base to even spot it these days.

To say Hecky, Stendel and Struber were the same wouldn't do justice to the rough deal that the current board gave to Stendel, who was expected to make a step up to the Championship after losing his goalkeeper, three centre backs and his top scorer.

Hecky's main issues were with the previous owners, who with a bit of better planning, and not much more money could arguably had us starting the 17/18 season with a midfield of Barnes, Morsy, Scowen and Watkins. With McBurnie and Bradshaw up front. We'd have been nowhere near relegation. But his one window with the current owners wasn't too bad. McDonald left, but he wasn't playing if memory serves me well while Moore came in and we finally got McBurnie in.

Struber had a role as close to being a manager, rather than a head coach as we'll ever have. Brought in his own players and while his contacts might have proven better than Stendel's (Sollbauer & Ludewig > Radlinger & Bahre for example), he's lost one player in two windows and brought in players with first team experience, albeit abroad. The recruitment has been poor in this window, but I think Struber had a part to play in that, more so than Hecky or Stendel ever did, or at least it appears that way from the outside looking in.

Ainsworth has been there a long time and joined them as a manager when they were literally languishing round the bottom of div 3. For the majority of his time there he has had next to no money ever and has managed on a relevant shoestring.
The current owner has only been there about a year.

Not sure that GG was more available then DM. Could be wrong but am sure DM has done a lot more interviews/Comms.

Theres is also a massive difference in role, GG was very much a CEO type person who not only comes from a commercial background but was very much running the business side.
DM however is a footballer by trade and is running the football side of things with Robert Zuk running the commercial side.

That doesn't help DM's case much.

I think GG was more accessible to fans because he was fairly active / responsive on social media as well.

I’d say Dane is light years begins both GG and Ben in terms of fan engagement and relationship.

You may well be right, Ben, old mate. In all seriousness, I don't have a problem with others holding a different viewpoint to me. It'd be a poor state of affairs if we were all clones of one another with respect to our opinions.
But I stand by what I've posted.

Strange your quick to believe someone who signed a contract then left for a vastly increased salary the next week but not people who actually have a significant financial interest in the success of the club . If Stockport had offered him a job on sod all would he have gone, like **** he would have .

I think there's reasons for that though. He's been far more in the public eye than people give him credit for, especially GG, who didn't give anywhere near the number of interviews Dane has.

He doesn't have the fan engagement or relationship, you're right, but I'm saying I think there's different factors at play for that and it isn't down to silence, because he isn't silent. If that makes sense?

Is that Eddie Howe finding out he's the new Barnsley F.C Head Coach?

It was on the club website during lockdown. The video is no longer there so I assume it's on iFollow. The club shared it on all social media channels and it was talked about on here. I'd dig out the thread but if the video doesn't work all you'll see are the comments from people being positive about how open and honest he was. Similar to the last statement he gave.

My main point on this is that these weren't GG's ideas. The team at the club are the ones with their ears to the ground, knowing which fans are struggling, etc. GG just put his name to it and as CEO rightly took the credit. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, as CEO you take credit for the people you employ and still have to agree to put your name to it.

But he wasn't at Oakwell as often as Dane his. Didn't do as many interviews as Dane does. But he was active on Twitter and maybe that is what swings everyone in his favour? Dane has had to endure boardroom turmoil, Covid-19, and limited success on the pitch. But everytime he speaks, which is often, he does relate to people. Excluding the divisional retention phrase and the Killian comments - bit of an own goal there. But as my partner is American I hear random uses of the English language all the time so I'm used to it!

It's because he hasn't signed a foreign striker. Even though we don't want more bloody foreign signings.

I think you're bang on here. Murphy has zero gravitas. And when you mix that up with jumbled Americanisms throughout communications and then add on top of that the stuff he's having to try and justify from above, it makes his position unbelievably difficult.

He may well be a decent guy, he may well have communicated x% more than any other CEO in the history of mankind. It doesn't make him believable, effective or competent though.
