Take our catches. He’s a good batter but also the luckiest in world cricket. If we could catch he wouldn’t have half the runs he has.
Cant argue with that, but when we have a bunch of pathetic losers who couldn't catch a cold then what else do we think is going to happen? Also he's good enough to take his chance and cash in, don't think one of the England batman would be if the roles were reversed. I can't see any of the management team surviving this series. We're struggling to get to 200 with the bat, it's appalling.
Completely agree and fair play to him for making the most of it. His average will drop over the next few years but still be miles higher than any of our batters, maybe with the exception of Root. On Root, when you think about it his stats are incredible. For pretty much his entire career he’s been holding the batting together almost singlehandedly with half of his games being played in bowler friendly English conditions. He’s got to go as captain though as has Silverwood. The whole team needs a refresh as well. If the rest of the series goes as expected, I’d say goodbye to Bairstow, Woakes and Buttler forever and just not consider them in red ball any more, can’t fault their effort but they’re just not up to it. I think Broad’s time is up, probably the same for Anderson too. Burns, Hameed, Pope and Crawley need to go back to county cricket and show some serious improvements. They also need to decide who the best spinner in the country is (I’d say Leach) and stick with him in all conditions, accepting that he will do an holding role in most games and judge him on that. Chucking a spinner in for the odd game here and there is a recipe for disaster. Who would captain this lot is a mystery but we can’t just keep Root on for the sake of it.
What a surprise to get up to this morning. A set of pathetic losers, nothing less. Bring them home now!
Brilliant post and 100% agree with everything you say. It's scary to think how bad we would be without Joe Root, probably just above Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in the test rankings. I'd give the captaincy to Ben Stokes. He seems to have a decent cricket brain and perhaps can get more out of some of these players. Anderson and Broad are done for me, they've had too much influence for too long. Fantastic servants but let's look to the future after this series has concluded. Also agree that we need to stick with a spinner and let them develop, it's no good chopping and changing. Regarding the batsman, big changes needed to the county system in order for us to start developing test match batsman again. This Australian team is just getting going and they are a lot closer to winning in England than we are in Australia! In the next ashes series in England I think they will be very strong.
Couldn't catch Omicron this lot. Bring them home, demote Root to just a batter and get shut of all the coaches like Silverwood.
Agree with loads of what you say mate, regarding the captain I think only Root and Stokes are guaranteed a starting place so that’s a tough one. We could be in the same boat with Stokes as captain and I remember when we gave it to our other great all rounder Beefy Botham, and it affected his form by being captain.......we just in a mess mainly due to poor batsmen I reckon
Silverwood probably will go now but I’m not sure what else he could have done. Bringing in Crawley for Burns is the equivalent of bringing Big Vic on after 65 minutes. You know it’s not going to make any difference but you do it anyway.
Having a read through the Aussie press and there's not the usual baiting and ridicule! In fact I think they're more disappointed that it's so one sided and we aren't even putting up a fight. In a way I think some of them actually feel a bit sorry for us!!
https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricke...lapse-for-woeful-england-20211226-p59k7q.html The conditions were more like a home test and we still couldn't do anything. I know the Barmy Army couldn't travel but even the locals didn't want to waste money going to watch such a one sided series. It's the emptiest I have seen the MCG for a Boxing Day Ashes test in a long time.
