Oh dear!! Here's me going on about feeling "young" despite my age all the time, then I go and post seomthing like that!!! What a plonker I am. I really should think before I post (or so I'm told!) Couldn't resist it, was one of the most bizarre incidents I've seen at a Barnsley match.
I remember that one. There was also a game in the late 80.s when Gwyn Thomas had a shot which hit the staunchon and bounced out.We only got the goal because the linesman saw it.I think it was against Norwich in a 2-2 draw.
I saw that too Last minute equaliser against Norwich. A belting goal and totally out of character for Gwyn Thomas, who was a top player but not a goal scorer.
Me neither I remember Richdale tonking us 3-0 in front of the camera's with Springett in goal - wasnt that game was it
RE: One or two older posters... yep I was there smack behind that net, but I was very, very young you understand . Jimmy Hinch made it 1-1 as I recall
It was away at Rochdale It was at the opposite end to the reds fans where I was stood directly in line. The ball went in the back of the net and bounced back out. Springett admitted afterwards "It was a goal" in various newspaper reports.
No Can you remember who painted the goalposts? Seriously, I never saw any of the other goals. I was playing myself in those days and I used to sneak in through the gates when they opened them to let fans out, after our game had finished.
David Hirst scored our opening goal But I can't remember who put the extra coat of paint on the goalposts. Proof, if proof were needed, that my memory's gone.
It was in January 1978. It was a definate goal. I was stood bang in line at the same end of the pitch.
