Just about to set off for match and saw this. What's the ****ing point in it all. Just what is the point. How the hell are we supposed to dream again. It needs to stop. I don't know how but it has to
Wouldn't be so bad if they were using that money to buy players (for the money they are worth) from the lower divisions but they'd rather buy exotically named players from various mid-table European teams who are no better, if not worse, so the money just doesn't trickle down. I'd like the see the parachute payment system changed drastically as well as it makes the Championship almost impossible to compete in - I believe the idea of it is to help clubs pay Premier League contracts if they get relegated but that isn't how it pans out in most cases. Presumably the parachute payments will also go up because of this new deal.
I wish some Islamic Jihadists would target some real ****s. Sepp Blatter & the FA would be a good start. Not approving of violence mind, but if someone has to die...
"Leading politicians have called for more money from the sale of domestic TV rights to be put into grassroots football and reducing ticket prices. "But [Premier League chief executive Richard] Scudamore said: "'We're not set up for charitable purposes.'" http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31384481
F*ck it, I only keep Sky Sports to watch the boxing, so I'm going to see if I can watch the next live fight on a dodgy internet channel and if I can I'm cancelling Sky Sports. It's almost certainly going to go up in price anyway, as they have to get this money from somewhere.
Like. They'll obviously offer you all kinds of inducements to stay on, including free periods, huge discounts etc. I'd love to know what percentage of Sky subscribers pay the full price.
That would be hasty. The money being paid is obscene, but we don't know how it will affect the consumer. Sky will probably announce their usual small increase of a pound or so per year but you just ring them, threaten to leave and get offered a better deal. If it's premiership football you want there will be more on Sky than currently so you get more games for your monthly price, so better value.
I don't actually subscribe to sky, but you can bet your life if I did I'd be paying full price or more. I've twice tried the ruse where you threaten to cancel a service on the understanding that you'll be offered a discount to stay on. On both occasions my bluff was called and I went ahead and cancelled a service I wanted because I didn't want to look a lovely person by doing a U-Turn. I've no idea how the system is supposed to work, but it never works for me. I have a similar amount of success when trying to get a discount on products. Total amount of savings in my 43 years up to now - zero. It's the advertised price or they don't sell it to me. I reckon everyone who talks about this stuff is just pillocking me because in my experience discounts simply do not exist.
Imagine, god forbid, if we ever sneaked a promotion back to the Championship. That place would be awash with clubs who couldn't even spend the original TV money they still had, let alone the parachute payments. How, on god's earth could we, or anyone else in the same boat, compete with that? There should a clause in every player's contract from the start of the 2016/17 season that they pay a 1% "tax" which gets invested into grassroots football in this country. Every single player, without fail, should have to pay it. They wouldn't notice the deduction. If they're not happy with it, tell 'em to find a better wage somewhere else, which, of course, they wouldn't be able to.
Not the FA's fault. They're absolutely powerless with regard to the Premier League. The PL effectively run football in this country. Whoever allowed the formation of the PL, away from the established FA structure, should be publicly flogged.
I've managed it a couple of times and you basically just have to be persistent. I was made redundant a couple of years ago and in one day I managed to get our gas and electric, phone, broadband and Sky all reduced by ringing up and haggling. There are so many easy to access dodgy internet sites to watch the films and shows on that I am wondering why we continue to pay so much to Sky, particularly when most of the stuff I watch is on the BBC anyway! The boxing will be the decider. Even then, most of the Sky fights recently have been really one sided, with the best ones being shoved on Box Office.
I cancelled mine about 5 years ago and I still get bombarded with mail shots offering massive discounts, free periods etc. I've thrown away 2 letters from them today. I also used to get cold calls from Sky, but they stopped when I changed my landline number about 18 months ago.
