My first one was September 1978 just after Allan Clarke had been appointed manager.
We beat York City 3 0 at home and went on to win promotion from Division 4 that season.
A great time to start watching the Reds

He did indeed, 2 pretty decent defenders. Back in the days when the team came into the social club after games and chatted to fans though if we'd lost there'd be a shorter stay than normal

I was on the Club’s books as a schoolboy at the same time as Sam Yates and shared a dressing room with him.
If he's still around, Im sure he wouldnt mind me sharing......
....to say he was well hung would be the understatement of the century. Down to his knees. I kid you not.

    Barnsley v Leeds November 06

Being from West Yorkshire all my pals were pulling on one arm to be a leeds fan. All my family are from Barnsley and avid Barnsley supporters, pulling on the other arm. I said there’d be one way to sort it, to go and whoever wins is whom I support.

They were 2-1 up at half time and I said to my uncle, (for whom the flag is in my pic) that I’m a leeds fan, in short (and without the explicits) he said no you’re not and that Barnsley will win 3-2.

Come the end of the game that was the score and that was me tied. Although, I truly fell in love with Barnsley and Football the following season. Visiting Anfield and beating Liverpool, then a full house at home and beating Chelsea in the FA Cup, getting to the semi final and visiting Wembley. Finally, staying up from relegation in my first full season was enough to get me hooked.

    You reds!

So, all us long time supporters who have seen it all will confidently know what the result is going to be on Saturday coming.

Me too - the exact same game is my first recollection of visiting Oakwell, though I'm sure I'd seen a few games earlier that season.

You're not quite right. We were relegated at the end of the 58-59 season. My first game was a 2-1 win at home to Leeds in August 1955.

As I've said mine was on this equivalent weekend, at the start of '81, on what was Fa cup 3rd round day.
It was nearly a Yorkie treble that season as Huddersfield were up there with us and Rotherham.
But it turned out to be three red n white teams going up in the end, as Charlton finished third.
It was also the last season where 2 points were awarded for a league win.
There were no Play offs and no Sky sports either then of course lol.
And it was the first ever time I saw fully grown men fighting with the police, on the tops of cars (v Enfield in the Fa cup)!.
Excited ?, yeah I was like a little kid at Christmas. :D
