First game against Bury in 1970. 2-2 draw. Was bored out of my skull at the football, though walking up the muck stack at the back of the Ponty under these Huge floodlights for a night game, was very exciting. I was only six! Got the match programme last year. It does take a while for the Clubshop to sort these things - only kidding. Went again in 1974 to a couple of games. Yawn…….. Then in 1976, went to see us play York (I think) in a League cup game 0-0. I was hooked! Never missed a home game all season. Had a couple of years under Ileyout and then it was time for the revolution. 78/79 onwards - fantastic. As the patch on my Norman Rimmington tracksuit top said ‘ Barnsley, Kings of the League.’.
My lad was like that. Took him at 6, but it took him a good few years until he properly got into it. He’s 29 next
Kelvin could also burp for England ! Used to be Pete Darwin who ran a farm, Kelvin and Ashley, Dave Starkey and Fred who could moan even more than Kelvin. Fudge would normally say hello as he was doing his rounds on the Ponte. Dave Clowery from Kendray also stood nearby then not far off us were Steve Hallworth, Reg, Roger and Kev Nutting
Hey Cape, who was that reply meant for lol. Do you mean you started at 5 years old, or at 5am in the mornings. And started doing what exactly.
